The fixtures for the 2013/14 Barclays Under-18 Premier League have been released today with a new format for the forthcoming campaign.
Unlike last season, when the Academies were divided into three national qualifying groups from which the best-performing teams qualified for the post-Christmas Elite Group Stage, the 2013/14 Barclays U18 Premier League is split into two regional leagues: North and South.
New format

Each league consists of 11 Category 1 Academies who will play each other home and away, and also meet each team in the opposing group once (either home or away) for a total of 31 fixtures per Academy.
The Academies participating in the Northern Regional League are: Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Middlesbrough, Newcastle United, Sunderland, Stoke City and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Academies participating in the Southern Regional League are: Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Fulham, Leicester City, Norwich City, Reading, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United.
The top two teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals, with the winner of each league deemed to be the home team, facing the winners-up of the opposing division. Each of the semi-finals shall be played at the home team's registered ground or at a neutral venue determined by the Premier League.

Oh, I like that a lot, lot more! We get to play a lot of good teams right off the bat, instead of having to wait for the 2nd qualifying round to get our teeth into Liverpool and the like!

I think the more variety in the teams you play the better, so I like this.

But really they should try not to mess with the formula every year, if possible.
