Barclays Premier League U/21 Fixtures 2014/15

Thought I would be at the Norwich-match. Anyone who can recommend a good way to get to Leigh from Salford Quays ?

Find someone who'll give you a lift. Horrible to try and get to on public transport :(

Additional details
All fixtures are subject to change. Home games are at Leigh Sports Village unless otherwise stated.

In each division, clubs will play each other home and away and the champions of Division 1 will be the team with the most points after 22 matches. There will be relegation and promotion of two clubs between Division 1 and Division 2 at the end of the season, which will inject more competitiveness into the latter stages of the competition.

Clubs can field only three outfield players plus a goalkeeper over the age of 21. Each club must host at least three Barclays U21 Premier League matches at their main stadium during the season and three at their training grounds or Academy venues.

Additional Lancashire Senior Cup and Manchester Senior Cup fixtures will be added in due course.

23 games.Still don't get why they decided for the U21s to play less games than the U18s.Doesn't make any sense for me.

The League needs to look at this as a matter of urgency.

United are just following the league's itinerary but know they are unhappy with the situation.

I expect to see some friendlies organised throughout the season.

Too few games to really help any of the youngsters.. Making a tiered reserves league system with 20 teams at each tier on the lines Football league might be a more ideal solution if the B team system isnt going to happen.. at least the kids get to play a lot more games and get used to the rigors of playing 30+ games a season rathet than the present 1-2 a month!

They're saying this will be better preparation for the players but the biggest problem of too few matches is still here. It is leaving the u19s playing 1 match a month if they're lucky when they need to be playing most.

I think eventually teams will have to do what City are doing and buy ckubs abroad and send youngsters out on loan to such clubs en masse if they want any real development.. The present system is just too inadequate

Is the U21 Cup continuing this season and are we taking part ?

We chose to opt out last season and that reduced fixtures for the U21s furthermore. This time there's not even any U19 CL.

We don't even need to buy clubs. Just have partnerships like we did with Antwerp.

Maybe Van Gaal can help with striking one with a Dutch club. Vitesse one has worked for Chelsea to a degree. But probably young local talents at that age might not all want to go abroad on a loan.

I can't see how playing in 'slower footballing' dutch league helps players development when they need to learn how to play in a 'fast physical' league.

I can't see how whole scale loans abroad will help most of our players.

If I were to ask someone in charge of the U21 league why there are 12 teams in a division and not more (20, say), what would their answer be? I can't fathom it.

This is now three different formats in three years.

It looks like they took the best 12 reserve teams and put them together, they must have been looking to keep out the lesser teams who aren't giving the top teams the sort of challenge they need.

I'm all for playing Chelsea or Liverpool or Man City twice (possibly thrice) a season than once but they should have added one fixture against the "bottom league" team (i.e those that were in the U21s PL league last season but didn't make the cut for this year). It would provide the youngsters the amount of games they need.

To add in the new promotion/relegation that they say will bring more competitiveness which I'd agree with. Then it is only category 1 academies so there is a limited amount to split into 2 leagues.

This would be a decent idea. They talk about getting them prepared for the first team but 22 matches is nowhere close to the 38 the first team have.

The constant change in league set-up is a bit worrying too. Doesn't look like they know what they are doing and are just changing the league to the newest idea they can think of.
