Barcelona have reached an agreement with Sassuolo for the transfer of teenage Paraguay striker Tonny Sanabria to the relegation-threatened Italian club.

The Primera Division champions said the deal for the 17-year-old, who has not made a first-team appearance for the Catalan giants, could reach 12 million euros (£10million).

A Barca statement read: "Tonny Sanabria will join Sassuolo after reaching an agreement for 4.5million euros which could be 12 depending on the performance of the player and his future market value.

"The process to purchase the player started with Roma, but the transfer was closed with Sassuolo."

Sanabria made his debut for Barcelona B this season after joining the club's youth academy in 2010 and has played a total of 10 matches in Spain's Segunda Division for the reserve side, scoring three goals.

He made his international debut for Paraguay during qualification for this summer's World Cup.

Sassuolo are third from bottom in the Serie A standings with 17 points, one adrift of safety after 21 games played.

Earlier on Wednesday they appointed former Genoa manager Alberto Malesani as their new coach.

Malesani takes over from Eusebio Di Francesco, who was sacked on Tuesday after 19 months in charge following the team's poor run of form.

Interesting if only because Arsenal were heavily linked a few weeks back. The bolded bit slightly odd and it suggests to me, as with Bojan, they have some sort of buy back clause on the player.

Wonder if it will have anything to do with a 1st option on the young striker Berardi. He's co-owned by Juvenuts & Sassuolo.

I have this chap on Soccermanager. Probably got a better chance of playing first team football at Sassuolo rather than Roma/Arsenal. Imagine you're right that there's some kind of buy back clause written in the contract.

This is in actuality a deal to Roma, just a pitstop at Sassuolo until summer and when he'll then be 18 to sign a professional contract

It's a good deal, all things considered, for Barcelona but there isn't a buyback as far as I have heard. Barcelona will merely get a percentage on his future sale. He's a fantastic prospect as a true #9 with cannons for either leg. Disappointed that the board were unable to tie him down to a renewal sooner or get him to take his chances here but I think they ended up making the best out of a bad situation. Kid is ready for 1st team play and he wasn't going to get it at Barcelona. Remember his name.

Roma doing some good business in regards to young players in this window along with this lad theyve also patked Leandro Paredes at Chievo and theres rumors of them signing Tomas Vestinicky and Valmir Berisha who both impressed at the under 17 world cup

Wish we got him in the end

The option would not be worth much. Foreign clubs cannot enter co-ownership deals and even if they could, Sassuolo cannot sell their half without our agreement.

I'm going to start calling Juventus 'Juve Nuts' now. Just putting that out there.
