i was speaking in slang, saying something like 'wot iz ***' [the last word there, if it gets auto-filtered, is a d followed by an a then a t]. someone suggested that that is 'text speech.' i am wondering what text speech is. i am familiar with
leet:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leet

my name r0n4ld0 is spelled in leet. i did this before i realized that it isn't allowed, and i offered to change my name but the mod in the noob section said it was fine. to my knowledge, dee aye tee is not leet. so is leet banned? am i wrong about leet being text speech?

thanks for the help.

In the Isreal v Russia thread.

wot ze ell iz ***?

did they just censor the letters dee aye tee? ***?

D4T is short for 'that' people! feck sakes!

but 'the eff word' isn't censored??? what zee ell is going on heRE!!!!!!!!

Posting in text speak is against the caf rules that's why some of the more popular ones are automatically censored out.

you mean leet? like how my name is spelled? the letter d then a then t is not text speak! or do i not understand the term?

Whatever it is I don't think its allowed.

Oh and text talk comes from shorthand words when writing a text on your mobile phone.

i was using it because i wanted to write the word without it being ***s. so that it could be seen. i was just using a german dialect to make a joke.

Is this one of those yoof things that I don't understand? If you want to say "that" why don't you type "that".

FFS you sure have a stange sense of humour. :wenger:

I was going to ask what he was getting at but I thought I'd leave it.

but it would seem that leet is not banned.

l-l()7?7?/-\Y!!!

I don't quite think its a case of what is and isn't banned - just one simple rule - post in English to the best of your ability.

erm pwned!!??!!

l33t or 1337 is a "language" made popular by computer hackers back in the day - kind of an acronym for 'elite'. Because it combines alphabets and numbers to spell words, RedCafe would be: r3dc4f3 or something similar.

Textspeak is more like: "u" instead of "you", "y" instead of "why" and so on. Textspeak is banned, but most people don't understand l33t.

What's wrong with plain ol' english?

To be fair text speak is far faster and would help me out on here a ton! I mean i write a poth then have to check i have not wrote words in 'text speak'.

But i guess some of the old timers on here arent all for it. Alas :(

Text speak and whatever that shit R0N4LD0 is spouting is banned.

English isn't, so use it.

Apparently the kids these days don't use 'cool' but 'book' instead because in predictive texting, that is what comes up first when you pick the letters C, O, O and L. And they are too 'book' to press the button that chooses the next option.
