I read in a discussion about Neymar/Ronaldinho that Neymars success will always be shadowed by Messi and Ronaldo. I agree, I think many WC players have been not recognised for being as good as they are due to these two phenomenal freaks of nature. So I thought I'd make a list of Ballon d'Or winners in a world without Ronaldo and Messi. Those in italics actually won them.

2008 - Torres
2009 - Xavi
2010 - Iniesta
2011 - Xavi
2012 - Iniesta
2013 - Ribery
2014 - Neuer
2015 - Neymar
2016 - Griezmann
2017 - Neymar
2018 - Modric
2019 - Van Dijk
2020 - N/A
2021 - Lewandowski
2022 - Benzema
2023 - Haaland

Are these the players who received the most votes apart from Messi and Ronaldo?

Yeah, thats how i've done it. I appreciate in a world without Messi and Ronaldo, their votes would have gone to other players, but there is no way of accounting for that as far as I know.

Sounds about right, I think. Can’t think of any glaring omissions and the ones who “win” more than once are justified. Not a happy bean about VVD in 2019 but I think he’s one player I just can’t judge objectively as he’s a wanker.

Maybe Sneider for 2010. Also felt that Robben should be there somewhere

If you look at it without just one of the two, Messi would have 13 and Ronaldo would have 10.
