Any of you lot play badminton?

Just started playing a couple of weeks ago. Absolutely loving it. It's a great work out and gets pretty competitive playing against my work mates.

Im pretty shite at the moment, so if anyone has any tips, feel free to comment!

They could be badminton buddies. I can picture it now. Walking around in their little white shorts, brown sandals and white socks rolled half way up there pasty little legs. A pure white polo shirt and a white jumper with the ensignia 'badminton boys' tired carlessly round there necks. After a particularly tense game, where plech almost breaks into a sweat, they can settle down for a quick break. After their earl gray and jam scones they can head off for some mushroom picking in plech's favourite meadow. Skipping joyfully, hand in hand and singing along to boys of summer.

Badmintons a bit gay really isn't it

A new Nathan Robertson in the making here.

In Denmark it's quite popular for some reason. Maybe because it's the only sport where the Danes are at top level.

I started playing badminton a few years ago and agree that it is a great sport, it's suprisingly fun and a great work out as well. My only advice is placement rather than power, other than that just enjoy yourself :)

You should try and make the national team. You'd be a "Black Cock" ;)

hehe yea, I think our badminton team won an award for worst named international sports team a few years ago or something

I play it too for my school team but I find a mixture of power and placement better.

Used to play county level years ago, loved it.

Would play now but am lazy, smoke and don't know anyone that plays.

Stick with it though it is a great sport.

Footwork and technique. The first is easier than the last

There's an exercise where you stand in the middle of the court, lunge out to each corner, forward, backward and side to side as if you were going for a shot. Even better if someone serves to you so that you can return them. Do this a couple hundred times a day. Helps you place your feet properly. It's knackering, though.

Other than that, try to get your serves low and short as possible, make sure you can judge your drop shots accurately (long, and in), remember that accurate smashes are better than powerful smashes, and try to develop a backhand. Or even a backhand smash.

I play badminton twice weekly. I actually grew up playing the game and football but once you reach my age playing football is a challenge due to the physical aspect :(

Anyway, for badminton the key is stamina if you are playing singles. If you are playing doubles, it is more to power. just remember, when you hit the shuttle, use your wrist not your arm.

Enjoy ...

I'm a badmintoner, I love it.

We only ever play doubles at my club, but that's fine; I quite like tearing up and down the back of the court. A decent smash makes a very satisfying sound too...

It's supposed to be very hard on your ankles I've been told

Last time I went to casualty was because of badminton.

I'd just hit the best smash of my life, jumped high as I could and hit it so sweetly...

... Then I was too busy admiring it, landed all my weight on the side of my ankle. Blunder.
