Bad Score :(

I think Bayer performed much better than us .. they, in my opinion deserved those 2 goals, while on the other hand, we scored 2 goals, one of a weird deflection and another from a penalty.

I don't know .. maybe I'm just upset of the way we played tonight, but I certainly hope we play MUCH better next week in BayerArena with Keano starting

Let's do it!!

It least we can't play that bad in the next game

we were not that bad, but this krout team are very good. They were unlucky not to win, our defending was brutal, we should never have brought johnsen back he really upset the balance of things by getting injured at this point(again).

So we should have stayed with Blanc and Gary Neville in the center?

I still don't feel confident with Wes Brown in the defence.

But all credit to Bayer. They were excellent.

We didn't lose this game in defence, we lost it in midfield (Now that we lost but it's as close as you can get in this sort of tie).

They flooded the midfield, out numbering Butt and Scholes, playing the ball around and through them with little short passes. They then worked their socks off when we had the ball, denying us time and space - which every good team who has any intention of winning matches against the top teams must do - we had a distinct lack of it except from Butt and Scholes and it's no small part of the reason why we drew and they had ludicrous amounts of possession!

We also had a serious lack of shape from the midfield onwards. Way too disjointed with players running all over the place out of position giving Bayer plenty of space to exploit.

Plus we defended ridiculously deep which has been a problem all season. They had us totally pinned back at times and we didn't half invite them on to us and it's no surprise they scored both goals during spells like that!

They deserved the draw and we've got it all to do next week. Key moment though was that save from Veron. They went straight up the other end and scored seconds later. That goes in, we win 3:1 probably and are sitting pretty(ish) :(

Not over yet though, not by a long shot, remember Turin!

Spot on. Remember when we upset the odds and beat Barca in the cup winners? That's what we did - exactly that. That's always the way in my book. They didn't let us play and hassled us so much that only they could play.

Bayer showed many of the qualities we were expecting to see from Deportivo, and they thoroughly deserved their away goals. We were hanging on for the draw at the end.

But we can win in Germany ....i didn't see anything tonight to say that the next match will go the same way. The two teams are evenly matched, and it is a question of which team, and which players, can really perform. A repeat of the first game against Deportivo will see us through.

I beg to disagree, the defence had a below par performance tonight. This seaason has been a nightmare for the United defence. The number of different permutations it has had to go through is incredible.

I think we need to resolve the defence situation next season if we are serious about winning anything. This season the team has done tremendously well with all the problems they've had.

I remember a night in Turin when Keano turned the season around with one header, I think we'll go through again.

The secret of beating United is to close them down - and that is what Liverpool and Arsenal have done to us this season. I would be confident the Bayer manager took a close look at the way the teams that beat us played against us.

They closed us down so well, gave us no space at all. Silvestre though he was playing rugby, every ball was hoofed up the field to a Bayer defender. Seba was terrible, lost interest and merely shadowed ; but I will say that he is much better in the middle. Ole crawled under a mushroom and died, but again this is because he was not playing in the role he is most effective in. In my opinion it was Ruud's worst performance in a red shirt; some of you may not agree, but I believe so.

Beyond all of this though lies the truth of the matter that tonight Bayer were feckin dinamite fair and square. Hats off to them.

Next Tuesday will be a tense tense time ! I don't think it will be a 0-0 draw, let's just say that :)

It will be interesting to see how the second leg pans out (what an understatement!) because Bayer are sort of in a tricky position after that result. They know that they don't have to win to go through and flooding forward to really finish thigns off could leave them exposed to conceding goals and if we get two, it's even stevens again!

However, if they sit back and protect what they've got as they could very well be tempted to do, it's not their natural game and will invite us onto them and we could really take them to the cleaners.

Bit of a dilemma perhaps - but better than being 2:1 or 3:1 down I guess!

One thing is for sure, we have to be firing on all cylinders and go for goals over there......while still shutting them out! Bugger this is gonna be tough :(

we were poor in many aspects tonight.. can't possibly be this poor in the away leg (fingers crossed)

odds on that will be extremely favourable

Players must perform next week, 4 Beckham, 4 Fergie & 4 the fans,,,i don't think that Bayer r better than Depo,,,,we can win f we perform...Agter Arsenal's win tonight,,i think the CL is our realistic chance of getting some silverware this season,,,so come on u can do it.

Hey, let's keep it simple and say that nothing short of a win will do for now

I think we cut them out quiet well in the first half. The defence worked well but
in the second half we defended far too deep. They could roam very easily around our box and had too much space.

In a word 'yes'. they were doing quite well there for a while, and the main thing is that they were 'stable', niether of them spend a lot of time out through injury, where as johnsen spends a lot of time out. Stability is the name of the game at the back, thats what we should be aiming for.

What was with bringing Irwin on? how humiliating for poor Phil to be subbed on and then subbed off later, total bullshit if you ask me.

Also, who is that big blond defender for BL? was anyone else impressed with his play? i thought he was class, won every header, passed the ball around nicely, probably the best defender i have seen this season other than blanc.

Come on, our defence was poor, what about that header they should have scored on?, the guy was totally unmarked nobody to even jump with him, and the number of times they cut inside our box was unreal, just lucky for us that they didnt score more. And our goals? a deflection and a penalty, sure we had a couple of other chances but BL have got some damn fast defenders and they seem to be equal to our counter attacking play.

In case anyone didnt know, were in a tie now, no fu**ing doubt.

Ruud would have scored if he was not taken out.
:D

It was a very poor performance, but I think Keane will make all the difference to the team next week.

Is Scholes ok? Looked like he came off injured. Otherwise Keane should have replaced Veron, who seems too tentative after his injury.
