Last night we were discussing how kids simetimes screw up their futures by going off the rails in their teens. Inevitably the subject turned to football and Mason Greenwood was mentioned. I said there had been others in the past where United canned or transferred players out but couldn't remember the names. There was one kid in particular who blew it by gettiing in with a bad crew but I'm jiggered if I can remember his name. Can anyone help out?

Ravel Morrison?

Eric Pierre Daniel Cantona. The ultimate United bad boy. We loved him.

Keith Gillespie. I was horrified when we let him go as part of the Cole deal. But he apparently had all sorts of gambling issues and that contributed to the decision.

But as others have said, I'm pretty sure Morrison is the one you're referring to.

Adnan Januzay seemed think he had made it too early. Brandon Williams got a hit big headed too didn't he. I really hope Garnacho has a good mentor in the squad (Licha??) as he looks like he could enjoy a party.

Oh yeah... Lee Sharpe.

Here is he with his fist-sized BW necklace (handy for when you forget your own initials...). He also did a Youtube video on getting it. Firm believer in getting rid of him. We don't need young players copying his "big time" antics. Being able to flash it about like that after achieving practically nothing with the club.

Didn't his gambling only become an issue after he left?

Maybe the necklace isnt just to be flashy but also actually usefull to him in a real life situation when he is asked for his name? He actually seems like someone who needs that BW necklace to remember his own initials. If that is the case, i personally think it could very well be, then i dont think the necklace is a bad purchase.

How Ravel Morrison & JLingz thought their futures were gonna turn out as United captain and vice captain.

OP must be talking about Ravel Morrison.

It’s a shame the tradition of boot cleaning and the like were done away with, but what can you do when you’re trying to entice a Pogba or what have you to join your academy.

Thought it was his love for Bolton Wanderers. Really shows how big the ego is of these guys that have achieved nothing yet. He's actually not that type of character but I really find it a bit weird that Justin Gaethje has his name tattooed on his back like it's a football shirt.

How can his ego not get inflated when he's earning the money he's on, reportedly earning 4 million a year.

Honestly I don't blame the kid, tbh. Just another sign of United's god awful contract dealings under Ed and Judge.

Yes, all those players who grew up scrubbing boots and being hazed all the time turned out to be well adjusted individuals didn’t they…

It's when it became public. But there was talk about Fergie having seen there was a problem early and deciding to let him go.

I feel stupid not knowing the following, but:

seeing as Brandon Williams must earn ~80K a week going by the 4m p.a figure,

and if we imagine he was loaned to Norwich City for the past year as well...

does he go an play there, and earn 80K a week that's paid by Man Utd, while his teammates earn whatever little money that Norwich pays them?
or does he also get paid by Norwich, as a loanee ?

Not United, but in 1996 Kluivert, then 19 years old, was found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving. He drove 104kmh in a 50kmh residential zone in a non-insured car. He was found guilty of manslaughter and received a three-month suspended sentence and 240 hours of community work.

In this time with all the social media and a lot more attention for football players, it would have been a lot harder to continue his career I think.

Bad boys? Here I was thinking of real bad boys on pitch. Like Wise, Batty, Keane, Feguson, Ruddock,, Souness and so on.

I wouldn't call those youngsters for bad boys. Some of them just couldn't handle the pressure of being fameous or being on verge to be fameous.

Yep just another one that was ridiculous. Could be my memory playing tricks with me but I’m sure he’d not long signed one when they gave him another upgrade.

Paying for it now. Quite literally.

his hair contains the face of Jabba the Hutt

I guess I’m talking about not taking off and thinking you’re hot shit on the pitch before you’ve even done it. Wasn’t talking about it being anything like sufficient in making sure people don’t turn into or persist as twats. Ravel was a hard case, I wouldn’t offer up any easy solutions for him.

Not just the contracts. A general culture of sloppiness and entitlement had been allowed to develop. Lots of accounts of the Academy lads at what used to be Cecil Avenue school in Sale being a bunch of spoilt brats.

By all accounts things have improved no end since Woodward’s demise though. A lot is now being done to keep youngsters grounded, including sending them to local lower league clubs. There was an article about it in the Guardian not long ago.

Normally don’t care how a player dresses or what jewellery they wear in the slightest but that’s tragic

Callum Gribbin was another Utd youngster who had all the skills in the world but reportedly a lousy attitude. At 16 played in the U-21's in the derby vs. City (back in 2015) but was released in 2019. Since then injuries have held him back and he's currently with FC United.

Sounds like Juan Mata

Players on loan still get paid whatever is in their original contract. So if he was on a guaranteed pre-tax £80k a week that's what he'll get while at Norwich too.

Norwich may or may not make a contribution towards his wages depending on what they and United negotiated. In reality I don't think any money goes out of Norwich's bank account into his. It would be more like United still pay him £80k, Norwich send United £10k, £20k or whatever it is. They're not paid weekly anyway, it would be monthly.

Feck bad boys. Thug life mf

But there’s a difference being an arrogant prick and a likeable bad boy…

George Best, Cantona, Keane different types of likeable bad boys who would all be like that even if they were not millionaires / famous.

From our current squad I think Antony has a bit of that bad boy character.

arrogant pricks = anyone who acts a certain way simply because the money. Eg if you suddenly speak cocky because you have a few million then it’ll be hard to take you seriously.

Sean McGinty should be in this list as well. Last player to be booted out by Fergie. Can't find the thread but I remember someone in redcafe mentioning back then that he'll be known for being the answer to a trivia question in a few year's time
