There was some report that our budget for this position went from 1m to 7m. Hard to tell if that's completely fabricated or not, but we've not exactly been linked with any modern types this summer, bar Yann Sommer who quickly quelled those rumours.

First we were linked to Giorgi Mamardashvili at Valencia, hardly the modern type, but physical unlike de Gea. Then it was Thomas Strakosha who is maybe a bit better with his feet, but not really the real deal and has since gone to Brentford. Then it was Alex McCarthy at Southampton, who is definitely not the modern type, whereas Southampton new boy Bazunu could turn into something really special and he went for 12m.

Have we been linked with others?

Begovic is another name I've seen prop up in the rumour mill.

Wish we'd take a punt on a young modern keeper that could be had for cheap.

Shouldn't we make an inquiry for David Raya? Brentford just signed Strakosha and were unable to work a deal out with Raya, who's contract expires in 2024.

Robert Sanchez for me. Been posted this back in May, but with De Gea's recent performances, our desperation, the short time in which Brighton could sign a replacement and the money they got from Cucurella and Bissouma would probably raise his price tag to more than 30m £ so unfortunately can't see it happening this window despite how much I would love him here.

Genuinely surprised ETH didn't address the GK position earlier instead of signing Malacia and Martinez.

I doubt Brighton/Brentford would let Sanchez or Raya leave this late in the window, especially Brighton with outgoings they've already had. Also can't see us spending over £30m+ on a GK this window.

I just can’t believe we have this issue when we have Hendo around as well. I know he’s on loan, but having to spend more money on a GK when we should be letting EtH have our two keepers fight it out seems ridiculous.

I say let’s bring inn Yann Sommer from Gladbach.
A much more modern keeper than DDG and should be able to claim the nr1 spot this season. Should be attainable at a reasonable fee as he’s 33 and one year left of contract.

Then if Henderson proves himself for Forest we must consider giving him a proper chance as our starting goalkeeper next season.

DDG either will leave on a free or sign a new contract on half the wages he’s on now.

Stop gap and go for him next year.

He has all the tools and the potential to be one of the best in the future.

Absolutely love it if our academy monster Vitek got a look in as number 3. Nearly 19 and over 6ft 4 already. Can do it all. Enjoy boys.

Aye, forgot him. A #2 at Everton who will never be starting. Not sure he's any improvement on Heaton.

Is Keylor Navas any good as ball playing sweeper-keeper?

He's being linked to Napoli, earning a ton, so tricky. He's not really that sweeper keeper, but he's a level above de Gea, also very brave.

I just think we should be looking for an early to mid-twenties keeper who is already accustomed to playing out from the back and is built like a keeper. I'd worry with Sanchez that Brighton would fleece us while Brentford do have that keeper in reserve now, so who knows?

We should go back in for Sommer and assure him he'll be first choice

McSauce plus £50m to Villa for Martinez. We probably missed that boat when we loaned Henderson out though. That should’ve been the swap.

If he wasn't such a cnut, I'd want to see Henderson recalled. Unfortunately he is, and 7M is nowhere near enough for a decent option. We'd have to scout in Korea, Ecuador, Peru and similar for that - and those kids don't get work permits these days
