i thought the back 4 did well i know parma wernt up to much but o'shea looked good along side rio and wes brown looked like the player we all knew he was at r.b :D

If Gaz Neville remains injured Brown may stay in as right back -- he started there adn wasn't bad.

Whats even better is that they are all young too. Time to develop an understanding of each other. And who knows, we may have the makings of our own old boys rearguard.
:p

agreed. he looked a bit out of form whenever he's at the CB position.

I hope they keep the same back four tonight.

Not true, he had plenty of games last season at CB where he was outstanding.

Agreed, but don't forget Carroll. I thought he played particularly well and he is young too. He has never let the team down and I would be happy to see him have a run in the first team whenever Barthez is injured or even if he's not.

Parma didn't really test our kids, but on the ball they all looked first class. It is a huge advantage for a team with our style of play to be able to bring the ball out of defence like that, rather than hoofing it up and hoping that someone will get on the end of it. Hopefully Silvestre will be told to cut down on the long balls.

True, he was excellent towards the end of the season vs Chelsea, Ipswich and Arsenal

The back 4 looked good.

I hope Alex gives Larry a rest and holds him for bigger games but continues to play O'Shea and Wes. I prefer O'Shea in the middle. He reads and and sticks to players making it difficult for them to get away. He's a fighter....a real devil he is.
Wes looked a lot more composed. And i did not miss gary for once on the right (and this is rare). Linked well with Becks and Veron.
Silvestre is fast but every now and then (which can be costly) he gets on the wrong side of his man.
Rio...was a tower....worth it.

I enjoyed watching the youngsters come on in the end. I must say they make quite a lot of noise on the pitch.

:D

good post that

OShea and Rio, awesome. Hopefully SAF will let it blossom and we wont have to worry about pace. Give Larry a few games alongside John to get experience and then we have the CB pairing for a decade to come. :D
