Sorry lads but I just heard on the telly that Ayala said he's coming to OT after the WC!

Anyone else heard owt about it?

I hate starting threads like this but apparently he said it, which is  imo.

There's nothing on any of the news websites. Which channel was this? How reliable are they?

Don't know if True Treble Reds saw what I saw, but Sky Sports News were going through Sundays papers and one paper (tabloid I think) claims Ayala is going to OT for 50k a week. The accuracy of this report isn't very believable imo.

A few links on www.newsnow.co.uk claiming Ayala says he wanna join us. Same report on F365

Sounds like paper-talk. But I'll keep my eyes peeled :)

BBC link if you guys are interested.

I don't know, sounds like the usual. He's trying to get a better contract and he's using us.

I dunno, I class BBC as a "reliable" source when I'm writing for RedCafe. Hopefully... :)

This sounds interesting, but he he not a little bit too old for the fee Valencia want?

try this!

if true, i cant imagine hofland coming because we already have two potential world class senter backs in brown and o'shea. ayala who is an established world class defender, will probably just replace blanc if he leaves in the summer, while o'shea and brown rotate to partner him.

I don't think this is the case, you see if Ayala comes, then hofland well be more and more wanted to fill in beside him, O'shea is still young, and Brwon is not confedent, so these two should be covering them...... That is if this story is true.

surely that would spell the end for johnson? shame coz he's always been one of my favourite reds.

He is good, and i like him aswell, but his injuries are not doing him any good right??

I think it's one or the other for Fergie. Ayala will cost more than Hofland I reckon, but, Ayala's available now! ;)

Ayala would be a great signing, but i think we should and could only be interested if he can come before the end of the month,
after the summer = no thanks!

He isn't cup tied is he????

He's played in the UEFA Cup for Valencia (he missed one of the penalties against Celtic), so he couldn't play for us in the CL could he? Is that how it works?

He's damn expensive too!

Is he worth it considering he's already 28??
I mean is he worth the bid United reportedly made?

He is certainly very good and experianced, played in two CL final (both lost  ) so i think he could be a good buy.

He is 28 (maybe slightly old for the money, but we have a good crop of youngsters like O'Shay and Brown comming through so the last thing we need is another less experianced youngster. Ayala could give us the leadership and experiance we need (that Blanc has not really given us), althogh it probably could take him till the end of the season to find his feet!

Forlan:
Forlan is excited at the prospect at playing with Veron and he could soon be joined by another South American at Old Trafford as Valencia's Argentine defender Roberto Ayala has again voiced his interest in linking up with Veron at Old Trafford.

Forlan would be delighted should Ayala join the growing South American posse at Old Trafford. His love for Argentina runs deep

We have to remember chaps, Blanc will probably leave at the end of the season...Irwin is probably on his way out too(free transfer?)..that leaves us with ..O'Shea, who i believe is 1 for the future,....Johnsen, who is in his 30s and injury prone,...and Wes. Ayala and Hofland coming in makes sense as it means we can move G.Nev. back to RB with Silvestre making the LB spot his own and P.Nev. covering both positions (and midfield, if needed).
With Ayala,Hofland,Wes & O'Shea all fighting for a CB place it would be a problem that the new manager would relish!! ;)

I disagree..if we don't get Ayala now we probably won't..but it is possible nevertheless..Hofland will probably still sign as Brown and O'Shea are still not good enough to play first team and GN is a better RB.

I think you are over-hyping brown and o'shea

Brown does not have the mental strength to be a world class centre-half

In short, we need to buy one centre-half and one right-back in the summer as I very much doubt that Sir Alex wll be allowed to move for anymore players this month.

He can play CL for us otherwise he'd be of no use in the LT

I recommend we keep Blanc for as long as he continues to perform at a high level. One year / two year / whatever.... and at the same time introduce a solid CB or two who can gradually transition into the role.

He's said he's off. He wants more than a 1 year contract and he'll get it at a 'lesser' club alá Winterburn @ WHU.

Good luck to him wherever he goes, he's been a great player for us!

"O'Shea, O'Shea, O'Shea, O'Shea..." :D

IMO if everybody agree that Hofland "should be the ONE" next season ... and he ain't coming this year ... then WHY do we need another CB now ?? .. CB is a very different role compare to other position in a team I think .. it's a very crucial one where - if you play badly and make some mistakes, you cost your team goals and lost !!! Unlike position like midfield or winger probably ... you might lost some balls but still, it could only mean a bad performance and that's it .. the impact is smaller I mean ..

So if we bring in a CB now .. whoever it's - he might take a while to settle in but do we want to take the risk at such a critical stage like now!?! .. and we will get "jammed" up come next year when Johnsen, Brown and O'Shea all back from injury ... and Hofland to arrive ?!?! .. 6 for 2 position??

If there's a choice now .. I would actually prefer a RB more ... 1stly, the IMPACT is lesser even if he can't coupe well immediately ... and after Irwin leave this summer, we will be a bit thin in the Fullback positions ... RB & LB should be 2 positions that we need strengthening & cover!!

This season

· John O'Shea
· Ronnie Wallwork
· Michaël Silvestré
· Laurent Blanc
· Wesley Brown
· Denis Irwin
· Michael Clegg
· Ronny Johnsen
· Phil Neville
· Gary Neville
· David May

Next season!

1st choice
· John O'Shea - CB
· Kevin Hofland - CB
· Gary Neville - RB
· Michaël Silvestré - LB

2nd choice
· Wesley Brown - CB
· Ronny Johnsen - CB
· Phil Neville - RB
· Wayne Bridge - LB

· Michael Clegg
· David May
· Ronnie Wallwork

This United fan would be happy if Larry (only signed for this season) & Dinny (said he's gone after this season) were replaced with Hofland and Bridge :)

Well if this is for next year then I am actually quite ok ... As I said, if we think we will sure get Hofland in the summer (he won't be in WC anyway), then another fullback should be priority then for now ...

Ayala is one of the few CBs who can benefit us quickly if we sign him now. He is very experienced, especially in Europe. It will surely increase our chance in the CL if we get him. However the main obstacle seems to be the transfer fee. If the rumour is true then he is more expensive than we can afford at the moment.

Blanc, Irwin, May, Wallwork will be leaving this summer. And most probably Ronnie.

Four/five out means at least two in.

I heard we can get him even before WC 2002.United offered him a 3-year deal and 72 000$ a week.Ayala wants to join us .Everything is up to Valencia.United wanted to buy him at the end of the last season for 10 000 000 pounds but Valencia refused to sell him.
