Ayala 'available for transfer'

Spanish press are reporting this today...
Valencia are not a big club and need to sell off one of their best players at the end of every season to stay afloat - they did it with Mendiata last year.
It looks like they are resigned to losing either Ayala or Kily Gonzales.
Could it be he is interested in United as his agent seems determined to tell us...?

Just have to wait and see how things develop ... Ayala or Thuram - just one of this will do ... Like Thuram 'cos we won't have any "availability" problem later SAmerican Continental tourney started ... but Ayala has age on his side - 2 years younger ?! ... Just one will do ... I don want the whole coffer being spent here ... we need a new No.9 !!

We've been hearing a lot about Ayala all season which leaves me with the distinct impression that we have a rogue agent doing a lot of talking.
No doubt he'll shine in the World Cup, but do you reckon Fergie will be willing to gamble on another South American style player? I mean, in fairness, there have been very few genuine Argentinian or Brazilian success stories in the EPL over the last few years, which is a shame. I've a sneaking suspicion that defenders that SAF goes for will be of the Ronny/Japp mould....i.e. started off in Northern European leagues where United are really well known and lads really want to play for them.
Reckon we need genuine commitment to the cause next time around.

True, we have had a lot of rumour around Ayala - and it's known he was trying to get a new contract at Valencia.
I work for a major newspaper in NI and have heard that Nesta is the man AF really wants. But if we fail to lure him out of Italy than Ayala would be the man for the job.
He has always looked an English-type player, brave and strong. Argentinian players are in no way typical South Americans. A Brazilian might have problems adapting - but Argies are rugged, determined and fierce, Ayala included.

Fair point, the Argies have had some great defenders down the years. Might be able to keep Seba company too ;)

If he's going to keep Seba company, Ayala will have to sign for Lazio.

Alot of rumours are flying around that the United hierarchy are getting very chummy with Gustarvo Mascardi (Veron, Cresp, Ayala and most other Argie player's agent) and thatis going to lead to us getting more and more into buying players from that part of the world...

Good thing in my opinion..

Well if it means we might get Crespo then hell yeah, bring it on baby :D
Just not convinced by Ayala as a Centre Half in England? Could be a dissapointment

Dunno, he was shit in Italy, then great in Spain.

Until I see a direct quote from either Valencia, the player himself or his agent, I don't believe a word of it....still would be nice to get him!

Wouldn't worry about Ayala being shit in Italy...
Bergkamp was shit in Italy
Henry was shit in Italy
Hell, even Ian Rush (I know he played for stinky Poo-l but he was a great goalscorer) was shit in Italy.
Italian football isn't all it's cracked up to be. the real test is in Spain - where Ayala has been a top performer for three seasons.

Totally agree.I've seen Ayala loads of times this season,The guy is tough, has great awareness and leadership qualities, excellent tackler and can pass well.Only problem might be language problems with other defenders.

he's the backbone of a strong defencive side at val so bring him on. my biggest concern was his size , for which i was quickly put in my place on this board - as it seems he doesn't get beat in the air. he can organize as well so being that he's a couple yrs younger then LT , go get him.

Don't they get much for winning La Liga then?

It's not that they don't get much for winning La Liga.
When you lok at Valencia now, it's a bit like looking at a Nottingham Forest from the late 70s, early 80s.
It's only a matter of time before top teams - and by that I mean the likes of United, Real, Barcelona, Juve, Lazio Inter, Milan etc, the really big clubs - come in to take their best players.
They have always been a 'selling club'. I am by no means belittling them by saying that but the truth is they have to sell for big money when they can. If they want to take our money for Ayala that's fine by me...

Doesn't bother me if Nesta comes here in exchange for Veron. Then Ayala can keep Veron happy at San Siro while United are winning championships. I'll say it now- if Nesta comes here, after 5 years he will be a legend and among the greats to play CB at OT. Believe me, he would settle in immeadiately and play at a level that Jaap played his first season.

I definitely like the sound of signing Ayala. I reckon it's between him and Thuram. If one of the two signed, I'd be content with partnering him with a younger defender like O’Shea or Brown (possibly Mexes) or Blanc or maybe even Gary, with Brown moving to the right. There is no end to the possibilities. :) I don’t think we need an influx of defenders, as that would unsettle the squad, but one or two will do fine in my opinion. Selling Veron to achieve a good defensive mix would be a backwards step. We’d go on without knowing how good he could have been had we stuck with him. The potential is there, and it will be realized next season – we’ve come this far with Veron, why give up now ?

oh no...switching centre half partnerships is bad...it can unsettle the players as well...if we were to switch CB partnership everynow and then....they wont click and dun grow that semi-telepathic understanding with each other that is crucial to defensive organisation.
Stick with 2 solid as feck CB ie Thuram and Ayala and let them be best friends...hell let them sleep together if it needs be...
Example...look at livershite's double H's...they've been playing together like forever and are solid and consistent as feck...

If Blanc stays we only need one new CB. It's Blanc partner the new CB with Brown as backup, and gradually start to replace Blanc with Brown during the season if we are going well. If Blanc leaves, then we should get two new CB.

Henchoz and Hyypia seem to be too good friends
