I'm sick of em. This rules pissing me off. It's a statisticians way of deciding who wins a football match. It's fkn stupid and changes the whole atmosphere, methods and strategy in these games. What the fks wrong with extra time?! Score goals and win the games. Don't rely on some buffoons bad idea. I mean you could come up with a bunch of these TRICKS to decide who wins, all of which would have to lead to different strategies.....
Most possession
Least number of yellow cards
Most corners. What the hell has the Geography of the game got to do with who wins?
(no sour grapes of course)
:)

I actually support this. It makes footie more entertaining. Can you imagine if there were no away goals rule and Liverpool was playing over 2 legs? Their away game would be even more dreadful to watch than the usual fare.

Having said that, I must admit that their match in Germany was rather entertaining, end-to-end stuff and all for once. Pity they lost.

;)

although i don't like the rule i disagree it is unfair, all the teams and all the players know about it and everybody has to play home and away.

alhtough it is interesting that the team that played away first in both quarter and semi finals went through

Goals win games. Team that scores the most goals wins. Thats football. That's surely THE most important rule of all. What's this stuff about 1 goal counting as 2? A stupid idea that's had it's time. United would be exciting no matter what the rules.
What is unfair is that a team that did not fulfill THE rule goes through to the next round. Call me old fashioned but I've put up with this rule for years now. I hated it when it first came out and I hate it now. Sure, the fact that it NEVER benefits us has brought this on but this damn rules stops us playing our normal game and causes us to be constantly chopping and changing.
It's gotta go!

Agree totally Bahama Red. If after the two legs all is even you must play extra time. Golden Goal or most goals and if all else fails go to pens. At least this would allow the players to decide not some fukced up rule.

We'd have won on the yellow cards count maybe. But not on the football. Or it would have been close.

How about "least away goals conceded" We'd have won that one.
:)

Sourest grapes I have ever tasted folks. We all knew the rules and as far as being a decider goes this rule perfectly nullifies home advantage and levels the playing field so to speak. It's long been the rule and the aim is to encourage the away team to attack. Nowt wrong with that in my opinion.

Still say it's a stupid rule. Goals should win games. One goal shouldn't count as two. Extra time is the only fair way to decide a tied situation.
Sour grapes, maybe, 'cos I'm miserable right now but I've had enough of this rule.

I agree with this rule, I really do...

We have also been on the other end of an away goals victory and I bet no one complained then...

Penalties is not a nice way to settle a game either but it still goes on...

One thing I can't understand is in the Worthless Cup away goals count only after extra time has been played?????...

What the 'ell's that all about.....Either have the rule or don't... <img src="graemlins/nervous.gif" border="0" alt="[Nervous]" /> ...

Still everybody's talking about Manchester United failure and yet Leverkusen has never beaten us, we have drawn twice, scored the same number of goals and conceded the same number too. But Leverkusen will play the finale and not us.I've never liked that rule. I would have prefered an extra time.

there is no away goals rule in the playoffs in the lower divisions in England and it seems to work fine there.

UEFA and the English FA have today lobbied the English government to let workers have time off next month.
It is not for the World Cup, it is so that all English fans can go into a state of mourning due to the fact that Manchester United have failed to win a single trophy this season.
The FA have realised that production will be down by over 25%, and have asked Tony Blair for a suitable period of mourning so the country can 'get over it'.
UEFA have stepped in to ensure that this never happens again and have come up with a blueprint which they hope will meet with Sir Alex's approval.
(1) All Manchester United's Champions Leagues will now be played at Old Trafford, including all their "away" games. As the Final is already scheduled to take place there, why fix it when it ain't broke.
(2) Every goal scored by Manchester United in the Champions League will now count double. Thus ensuring that what happened last week never happens again.
(3) All goals scored against Manchester United in the Champions League will first be scrutinised by a video ref in the stands, before being allowed to stand.

The FA have followed suit and declared.
(1) All Manchester United's games in the Premiership will take place at Old Trafford.
(2) The referee and assistants will come from a list personally chosen by Sir Alex.
(3) Manchester United will be allowed to make upto 10 changes during a game, including a new strip in the weeks before Christmas.
(4) Any Manchester United player who dives in the penalty area from now on will result in the nearest opponent being sent off.
(5) As 2004 is a Leap Year, Sir Alex has been alloted this extra day two seasons early. Enabling him to add on as much time as he wants at the end of a game if required.
(6) Manchester United's name will be first out of the hat in each round of the FA Cup, followed by a team from the Conference League, if no Conference team is available, one from the 3rd Division will be drawn, and so on. If their are only Premiership teams left in the FA Cup, Manchester United reserve the right to pick the one they want.
(7) The FA Cup Final will be moved from South Wales to Old Trafford, also both Semi Finals will be played there.

Once all these points are in place, we will never have to suffer again next season like we did this season.

;)

Bloody 'ell Davo, I read this on KopTalk and it wasn't funny then, it ain't funny now either...

Where is that famous scouse sense of humour when you need it?... ...

On the contrary, Davo has reached new depths which is what he strives for. Well done Davo- a masterpiece!
Now give us your view on Liver Fuddles season? <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

Both teams went into the match knowing about the away goals rule. Leverkusen came out on top. I wish them success in the final. Not for the club or the Bayer name but for the players who play on the pitch, I do not support companies that experiment on living animals as the Bayer company does. United lost the tie because the defence is not of the same standard as the midfield or the attack. We are like a cheetah with a broken back leg. Can someone please repair it so that this Cheetah can show what he can really do?

One rule that pisses me off is this ban rule, Imagine you are a player and you reach the final of the champions league, but you have picked up a ban because of an undeserved yellow card in the semi. Imagine you are the star of the team. Not only is it a dissapointment for you, it is also a dissapointment for the fans. I think no one should be banned from a Final by some fat arse sitting on a chair. Depriving fans and clubs of their best players. Finals should be exeptions. The ban should be moved to the next season.

Any particular Man Utd player in mind here?

So, first we get rid of the away goals rule, then we get rid of the rule that kept Keane out of the '99 final. What other established yet inconvenient rules could we rid football of?

I think Davo had a point...

Not complainin about what's been. Just had enough. Just realizing that this 2 goals for one thing is not right. Don't know anywhere else that this rule is used. More sensible Associations use the extra time/penalties way of sorting a tie. This fkn myth about livening up games is just not so. The only difference it makes is that teams have to completely rearrange their normal line up and whichever lucky team scores more away goals is the winner come a tie.
It's a bad rule in amongst a multiplicity of good rules and it's hard to see the flaw in the rule. Bit like Davo on here really.

Pity the internet wasn't around in 1983 because United drew a home game against Dukla Prague with a last minute goal and then drew the away leg 2-2...

There was no internet but I know I didn't hear anyone complain about that rule...
