I am trying to play a AVI file on Windows media player 9.

When I play the file,it starts downloading a codec but then says "error downloading codec'.And then I can only hear the sound but cannot see the video.

What is the problem?Do I need to download some codec or should I use some other player to play the file?

Please help!

Instead of the VLC player, I'd go for the something called "Gom Player" It's so much better than the VLC player, as it's much more simpler when using it. Space bar to pause/start video. Page Down/Up to toggle the queues. Get subtitle files, and you can forward or delay subtitles. Press the left or right button to go forward/backward 10 seconds.

download vls media player or download the latest k-lite codecs

Agreed, I used to use VLC all the time, but GOM is nicer and seems to play just as many weird file types.

Enjoy :D

I had this problem the best thing to use is prism video converter. It is really simple to use and automatically downloads any codecs you need.
