Australia v World XI - The 1st Test

Finally the proper version of cricket starts :D

1st over Harmison bowls Langer with a great inswinging full delivery.

Harmison, playing in the same team as Lara, who is better than Tendulkar.

Aussies 82-2 at lunch. Second wicket taken by Flintoff, Ponting caught in the slips. England v Aussies all over again.

Katich running into the back of Murali, getting run out, being played back in slow motion is one of the funniest things I have ever seen.

How can it be a test match and proper cricket when one of the teams is a world 11. Complete waste of time IMO.
How can Rudi Koertzen call for the 3rd umpire, then decide that Katich was out when the 3rd ump was inconclusive. It's all bollocks.

Agreed, its off putting...

I mean in terms of the type of match, not the opposition. It was Clarke he gave out and they are just trying out the new 3rd umpire thing on all decisions, worth a try in a series like this but I dont think it should stay in. Oh and he did nick the ball.

Didn't see it D D, was listening on the radio. Beats me how he wasn't sure he was out so called for the 3rd ump, 3rd ump couldn't decide but Koertzen then gave him out. If there's any doubt the batsmen should get the benefit.
3rd umps a good idea though and should be brought in.

It takes a bit too long for my liking, especially if there is an appeal ever other ball, it could work if the umps use it sparingly though. Im not sure if the 3rd ump couldnt decide, from one of the replays it did look like there was a nick so he might have said that he thinks there might have been a nick, but hes not 100% sure and Koertzen gave the final decision.

This is getting daft. They are now claiming McGrath is the leading pace bowler passing Courtney Walsh.
Surely it can'r be a test match, that needs two nations playing IMO. How can records from a 6 day game be compared with a traditional 5 day game.
Complete bollocks.

Aussies in for a second time. More than 200 ahead with only 1 wicket lost. Doubt that it will make 4 full days.

What's the current score?

Is Harmison being less mediocre than he was in the ashes?

He bowled Langer in the first over.

not been watching this, but wish the rest of the world 11 had put up some sort of a fight.

The world XI shit was never going to work.
TBH wish it had been an Asian 11 vs rest of the world or something like that. Australi, NZ, England, SA etc vs India, SL, Pak etc..because the motivation levels would have been the same. In this series, the Aussies are playing for pride and the ROW players dont have that burning passion in them, they look awkward and pretty overawed by the situation.

No they're not. They are playing to line the coffers of the ACB, it's all about money. Why else would they squeeze in a 6th day, or try to, it'll be over long before.
I thought the 6 day thing was because the organisers wanted to make sure they got a result out of the game. But theres a difference when your playing for you country, that inner fire cant be produced for the sake of individual pride. Still think the world 11 have let themselves down.

There's a surprise
Cant think of any other matchup having both assorted 11s..
Do you actually read the whole post, or just quote whatever you can reply to in a retarded manner?

There was Asian11 vs African 11 series about a month ago and also there has been couple of world11 vs asia 11 matches in the past. None of them were given the official status like this though.

Thought the Asian11 versus African11 had official status.

Flintoff and Harmison look on as Australia celebrate

Cricket chief Malcolm Speed has admitted the Super Series might not return after the World XI were easily beaten by Australia.

Australia recorded a 210-run victory in the Test match in Sydney and won three one-day internationals in Melbourne.

ICC chief executive Speed said: "We need to go away and assess the concept, see what we can improve and whether we want to do it again.

"We've never actually said how often the series will be held."

He denied the ICC had scrapped plans for a Super Series in another four years' time.

I haven't had a sense that the players were taking this no more seriously than a holiday

Malcolm Speed

"I've read and heard that it will be every four years, this game, but we've never actually said that.

"There's certainly no commitment to play this every four years. It's not something we need to put on on a regular basis.

"This was just an opportunity to fill the gap and have an ICC event this year."

Speed said if there was going to be a next time then maybe the top two ranked teams in the world play a one-off Test match.

World XI coach John Wright says that would offer a genuine contest.

"Finals are attractive, where a winner takes all - number one versus.number two over four years," the former New Zealand captain and ex-India coach said.

"There are various concepts out there. The Super Series is an attractive package, but it's got to produce the quality of cricket to match it."

Speed defended the World players' commitment to the Super Series cause after accusations they were not taking it seriously.

"I haven't had a sense that the players were taking this no more seriously than a holiday.

"It's true that they all had families out here, and for the first time some mums were here too, but it's common to tour with families these days."

There was something missing - it was hard to find that extra 20% you're pushing for

Graeme Smith

But World XI captain Graeme Smith admitted it had been difficult to recreate the atmosphere of a national team.

"You grow up dreaming of playing for your country. When you come here, you don't really know the guys you're playing with," the South Africa skipper explained.

"There was something missing, if we're all honest. It was hard to find that extra 20% you're pushing for."

Attendances were also poor with the stadiums in Melbourne and Sydney less than a third full, and only 5,000 turning up for the result on Monday, but the ICC said it had achieved its aim of maximising cricket exposure around the world.

"Interest in cricket all round the world has gone through the roof, especially in places like England since the Ashes, and this was our opportunity to build on that popularity. "We always knew we would be following the Ashes and I don't think that's had a particular impact on the concept of the game," Speed added.

I personally think interest in cricket took a downturn after this debacle.

Yeah after such a good Ashes, which was a great advertisement for the game, this has been the exact opposite.
