OK, this is from the Mail so absolutely the opposite could be true but I know this subject has been around for a while and, if true, the club really is taking the piss. The ticket holders have paid their money and can do what the hell they like, if you ask me. If I buy a pair of trainers and decide only to wear them once a month, that's my business.

"Manchester United season-ticket holders have been left outraged after being told to provide a description of their clothing and photographic ID so they can be identified on CCTV to prove they were at home matches the club claim they did not attend."

I think it's fair enough. Tickets are in a limited supply and the clubs kept the prices artificially low to keep them affordable (frozen for the 10th consecutive year).

There’s been a lot of the above this season. The club can feck off.

The only fans who will be outraged, will be the ones who have resold their tickets for a higher price.

United tickets are (comparatively) cheap, so I think this is fair enough.

The claim needs a link.

Firstly, I think new rules about having to attend a certain number of matches to keep your season ticket are good.
Too many fans (and touts) are purchasing STs but letting certain tickets go to waste just to have tickets for the big games, which is a shame when there is high demand for tickets.

However, there seems to have been a glitch somewhere where some are claiming they attended but it didn't get registered. I don't think it's widespread and I don't know anyone personally (anyone on this forum?)

Then the club are trying to get proof that they did attend - not sure how else they can do it.

What I can say is that I am a member of two ‘face value only’ ticket exchange groups which I have used for years to regularly go to matches. Anyone within the group seen to be touting is instantly banned, and I’ve never been scammed.

To me this seems like a great solution to keep the ground full and avoid touts benefitting when people can’t attend games for whatever reason, especially now the season tickets can be officially exchanged via a smartphone.

Just a few weeks ago several of the members explained that they had had their tickets revoked due to their membership within the group, and it’s significantly reduced the availability of tickets at face value via these groups. To me it just seems daft, but maybe someone can explain to me the clubs thinking here.

Edit: may have misread the OP. Not sure if this is on topic at all

Might be unrelated but one thing that really annoys me is the way that Manchester-based businesses hoover up STs for 'staff and clients' and then let them go to waste, whilst 'real' United fans sit on waiting lists for tickets.

it was reported on here last week. included a twitter thread where many were being told to prove they were at games they attended

Ahh so this is why they give you the option to return your ticket if you cant attend. They resell the ticket at extortionate prices, i thought they just resold it at facevalue. They are doing the ticketmaster thing of jacking up price if demand is there

United are not just a football club, the owners, as we know are business men who see the club as a money making machine and over the last 17 years they have have done very well without spending a single penny from their own wealth.
The way they treat season ticket holders who are 90% genuine fans who just want to watch football Is sometimes a disgrace. ( I know people as Ruud said that have just bought season tickets to enable them to go to maybe 10 of the biggest games and sell for the others )
Not everyone can go to every game and the digital transfer system, when it works, has been a God send and stops you having to hang around after the game to collect season tickets back again.
However , its in Uniteds interest financially for any season ticket holder who can’t go to sell their ticket back to the club.
You could sell your ticket face value ( mine are £37) to a friend but if you return it to United they will then sell it to a member for £45 so a nice profit of £8 a ticket.
The problem now is , in t &c’s it clearly states that you can’t advertise your ticket availability on social media , people are using their own names and even advertising their seat details. United have their spies and are confiscating season tickets, banning you for up to 3 years then reselling the seats therefore making twice the money for the seat.
Be careful out there, they’re watching .

Officially you are not allowed to sell your ticket even for FV, the thinking behind this is to stop ticket touts because once you allow it then who can police how much anyone is actually paying

In practise of course many tickets for every game are changing hands at face value but anyone selling online should do it discretely

Well this kind of thing is exactly the reason why the club have introduced minimum levels on how many games a ST has to be used for

I have no issue with the scheme in principal, it's not a big issue to expect season ticket holders to attend at least half the league matches. And in fairness the email last month said my ticket was scanned at the 3 home games so far, which it obviously was because I was at them, so it appears to be working ok for me.

That said, I do find the "provide a description about what you were wearing to the match" question on the email on the Daily Mail site slightly concerning. Say for example there is an issue with my ticket on Sunday and it flags that it hasn't scanned, and then I get an email in a few weeks time saying "What did you wear to United-Newcastle", I wouldn't have a clue, especially for a game in the middle of a 6 day period where we've got 3 home games. Am I supposed to keep a log of what I wear and when I wear it? That part seems off to me.

When I go to Chelsea away games I normally buy the ticket at face value on the day off someone trying to get rid of a spare on twitter. Whilst doing this If I ever see someone trying to sell one for over double the face value I'll agree to meet up with them about an hour before kick off and leave them hanging with their unsold ticket. feck them.

It is, but I do also empathise with the fact that they need to search the CCTV to see if you were there, which isn’t an easy job either. If you can provide a description of what you were wearing then it becomes a lot easier.

That being said to most games I wear the same rather distinct hoodie so personally even if I end up in that situation I’ll be fine during the winter at least.

The rule that you need to attend a certain amount of games cannot be an issue for many, the bar is so low. 10 out of 18 EPL games. From what I understand if you make 18 games or 11 games, you won’t suffer any detriment.

The few bits I’ve seen on FB and online in general, where lads have had STs cancelled because they have passed on tickets for FV unofficially, would make me wary of doing the same. Appreciate its in the T&Cs, but maybe a final warning for those selling at FV.

The real issue would be with those selling over the odds.

Yep, I’ve lost count how many times this has happened. Tickets become available and when you click on the seat, it’s in excess of £250/£300!
