Developed by Mundfish (their first solo game I think?) and coming out tomorrow. FPS being likened to a Soviet bio-shock. Anyone going to give it a go? The reviews came out today and it sounds like it's good with some minor tech issues.

I definitely want to try it because the premise is intriguing and I loved Bioshock. But based on the reviews and my lack of available time I might wait until it's a bit cheaper.

The environment, the levels themselves look fantastic though, I really want to explore this.

Apparently, the open world feels redundant and superfluous, much like my adjectives in this sentence. Continuing the trend of games that would work perfectly well with well-constructed linear levels shoehorning in an open world because it's the hip thing to do.

Also, almost all reviews mention how unlikeable the protagonist is. That's a bit worrying, as I know full well that sort of stuff gets on my nerve really quickly.

When I heard about this I just assumed it was linear. As you said, another open world shoehorned in. Ugh.

Apparently it's mostly linear: you complete mandatory 'dungeons' - I think it's mostly research facilities - and in between them, you get to explore in an open world in which there isn't much to explore...

I watched a video and you can definitely see some Bioshock Infinite inspiration in there.

I played a bit of it last night and it has a remarkably dull start. I know games in general take an age to actually get out of the tutorial but you start off on a slow boat ride, before going for a long stroll and up and down in an elevator to get a key for a car. I’d say I was playing for about 20 minutes without doing anything.

Saw some recent lengthy gameplay footage and it all looked oh-so familiar. Plus the leads dialogue is written terribly, it seems a poor contrast to the rest of the worlds setting.

It's on my radar but I've seen some reviewers be very critical of the writing, which seems like a big issue for a Bioshock-type game that wants to draw me into its world and narrative.

It's free on game pass so I'll give it a go. Seems like fun although the flaws are there.

It'd score way higher if it wasn't made by a Russian team. I've played for like 2 hours and like it so far. The story does seem somewhat bland but not to a point where it becomes a major issue, and the world design is brilliant. There's some moral aversion towards playing a game that was made in Russia but having it free on Game Pass and knowing they will likely not get much extra money from me playing it for a few hours slightly offsets the guilt.

I definitely have my eyes on this one. Sounds like the visuals and gameplay are pretty impressive, but the story is lacking and the main character was done poorly. This'll probably be a game I pick up when it's half-price eventually.

Got this in the Steam sale and having loads of fun with it. I like how it's a linear experience in these mid sized open world spaces, although a lot of the story appears to be "you need four of these things to unlock this door, please go to other parts of the area and collect them". It's annoying but there's plenty of lore and neat level design stuff going on to distract you from it. The boss fights and the dialogue between your character and his talking glove are also quite funny. I don't know why they decided on a wise cracking, incredibly angry American to voice the main character but I'm glad they did. Runs great on my shit PC at near full settings as well so that's a big plus too.

Oh, oh. The soundtrack is great too! And the gun play! And there's an upgrade machine that looks like a fridge, and she keeps trying to eat you in the horniest way possible. And you talk to any dead people who have an Apple AirTag stuck on their temple. The game is like Bioshock if Ken Levine was a meth addict.

Anyway, yeah, the company have some ties to Russia but the devs themselves have said that they don't see themselves as pro-Russian/Putin and they're based in Cyprus so that was good enough for me.
