Atletico Madrid reject £52m bid from Chelsea for Aguero and Godin - BBC

Spare a thought for all those who believed Abramovich had lost interest.

Doesn't King Kun have a release clause? Which means they are paying quite a ton for Godin?

It was for 2 players not just kun.

We should bid 30+ Gibson. He'll score more than Aguero!

El Kun, one of my favourite players back in the day, somebody who is just going to explode once he gets to play for a bigger club, he has all the potential in the world to be a true great

it's not really happening for him anymore but Atletico right now have a small club mentality and feel they have to sell some key players each year to balance out the books, Forlan is another who is probably going to go, it's a shame because they are both fan favourites

Aguero is class, probably world-class. Throw him in a club like Chelsea and he'll be magnificent.

I really hope they don't get him.

Just popped up on the ticker

Atletico have also recently rejected a £39m bid for Aguero from Real Madrid.

"Atletico have said no to the two offers because they believe in these two players," said majority shareholder Miguel Angel Gil.

Argentina international Aguero, 22, has scored seven league goals this season, while Uruguay international Godin, 24, has won 43 caps.

"We never comment on transfer speculation, no matter how wild it is,"[/B ]said a Chelsea spokesman.

I think that the BBC have taken 2+2 and got 5 there. The quote makes no mention of Chelsea. I think what most likely happened was that the bid of £39 mill made by Real, has probably been added to a chelsea bid for Godin and the BBC has now reported that Chelsea have bid for both.

@Team Brian GB, I very much doubt that Roman will splash the cash at Chelsea anymore and even if he does, it might only be because of the fact that it'll be the last injection of cash he can put into the club before the FFP rules come into effect. The long term stability of Chelsea is far from guaranteed.

Atletico Madrid CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin has revealed Real Madrid and Chelsea both offered big-money for striker Sergio Aguero but both were turned away at the door.

Gil Marin says that Madrid came in with a €45 million [£39m] offer for the Argentina international striker while Chelsea made a bid of €60m [£52m] for Aguero and defender Diego Godin.

"Yesterday I received an offer of €45m [£39m] from Real Madrid for Aguero and I said no," Gil Marin told Spanish daily AS.

"This week, Chelsea offered us €60m [£52m] for 'Kun' and Godin and our answer was the same.

"I will not negotiate with Real Madrid or any other club for Aguero now or in the summer."

Chelsea have not made a £52million bid for Atletico Madrid pair Sergio Aguero and Diego Godin, despite claims to the contrary by the Spanish club's majority shareholder.

Press Association Sport understands there is no truth to Miguel Angel Gil's assertion that the Barclays Premier League champions attempted an audacious double-swoop for the duo in the past week.

Chelsea refused to comment on the claims, a spokesman saying tonight: "We never comment on transfer speculation, no matter how wild it is."

However, it is understood the Blues made no attempt to sign striker Aguero or defender Godin.

Gil also claimed he turned down a £39million bid for Argentina international Aguero from city rivals Real Madrid.

He said: "In the last week, we have received two offers.

"One from Real for Aguero for 45 million euros and the other from Chelsea for Aguero and Diego Godin for 60 million.

"Atletico have said no to the two offers because they believe in these two players."

Chelsea have previously been linked with Aguero, 22, who joined debt-laden Atletico from Independiente in 2006.

Godin only joined Atletico 5 months ago. If they've got an interest, it's strange they didn't make a move in the summer.

Oh to be back in those heady days of...er...2007.

They need more than a centre forward and a centre back. That £52 million could probably be better spent on half a dozen or so players.

Anyone know much about Diego Godin? When I've seen Atletico play of late, he's been on the bench. Unless he's lacking fitness, that can hardly be seen as a glowing indictment of his ability, as Atletico's defence has never been the greatest.

I've read that Chelsea did not bid on those players. The story is a fake. Maybe Madrid are trying to find potential buys??

A bit premature I guess, seeing as it seems no bid was made

Not that it matters now, City can blow Abramovich out of the water if they wanted to should he have regained interest

Or is just meant to take attention away from the shitty season they are having.

You think A. Madrid saying they'd reject £52m for Aguero and Godin would attract other clubs to bid?

Don't be daft. That looks more like Madrid saying Aguero is not for sale.
