MANCHESTER UNITED have again used their Belgian feeder club Antwerp to land one of football's brightest prospects.
Planetfootball.com broke the news of Arthur 'Archer' Gomez's move from Gambian club Hawks to Antwerp and now it can be revealed that Qatari international Hussain Yasser Abdulrahman was also signed on United's say-so.
The 18-year-old midfielder was signed by Antwerp in August from the Rayan Sports Club of Qatar, but only after United had informed them about the player they had been scouting for a number of years.
"He is another one involved with United in the same sort of agreement as Arthur," confirmed Antwerp general secretary Paul Bistaux to planetfootball.com.
"They have been watching him for some time and we managed to get him in earlier this summer. United have known about him for a long time and they have constantly monitored his progress."
Abdulrahman signed a three-year deal upon his arrival in Belgium and he has already made staggering progress for the side - making his first team debut in September and scoring his first senior goal in the 2-2 draw with Club Brugge later the same month.
"We have an agreement with United which allowed us to sign Arthur, but Hussain was the first - just nobody really picked up on it."
Abdulrahman is obviously a very exciting prospect, but his lack of caps would currently prevent any move to England - hence his transfer to Antwerp.
However, United will also be delighted by the progress of Abdulrahman's country Qatar - who over the last 12 months have climbed 12 places in the official Fifa rankings, which now leaves them in 68th place and within the work-permit criteria of the British Home Office.
The Red Devils, though, will be in no hurry to bring their young Asian star to Old Trafford and will be quite happy to see him progressing well in the Jupiler League.

That was kept quiet! The thinking behind Antwerp is pretty clever, to get around the work permit rules, effectively securing the player earlier than we'd otherwise be able to. Wonder what the kid is really like.

Sadly the Belgian league really isn't worth watching.

I remember Antwerp wasn't having some best league form last season ... but now they DRAW with Club Brugge ?? ... wow .. that's a real improvement ...

Seriously though ... and Belgium fan here who can give a bit of hint abt how Antwerp is doing and how these 2 "undercover" kids doing in the team ?

If he was so good, you would have thought he would have been capped by Qatar already, even though he is only 18.

U dont feel like it doesnt mean its not in asia! Middle east is part of the asian continent!

Well I suppose it is on continental Asia (as are Russia and Cyprus - presumably due to being part occupied by Turkey). But it makes no more sense to call someone from Qatar Asian than it does calling an Icelandic player European.

I suspect that the writer of the aformentioned article hadn't a clue where Qatar was and just copied and pasted a news feed. Not that I give a shit TBH.

Turkey is also listed by most atlases as being in both Europe and Asia <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> Don't you hate countries that can't make their minds up.
