He really is.

A few months ago there was a mini campaign on Twitter. A former United season ticket holder had been diagnosed with a terminal illness. After news spread Ashley Young promised to help the man complete one of his final wishes - to see United at home one last time.

Here he is at the game today in a box that Ashley Young organised.

As well as that he's come and sat with the away fans on numerous occasions as well.

Well done Ashley lad.

I remember that story. Good to see he made it to the match - and good that he got to see that second half too!

Very well done indeed, Ashley.

Well done Ashley Young.

The thread title is just asking for trouble though.

Unlucky on the pitch but that doesn't collide with how mature and friendly he became in United.

Nice of him to do that for @Boothy

If I had 100k a week I'd probably do the same.

what exactly does a statement like that mean? did you think about what you were saying or did instinctively have a rush of bitterness to your head that some people are more fortunate than you are in terms of money and you couldnt let it go? genuinely curious

He knows the United fans don't like him. Doesn't play very often, does something nice to get some praise from fans. Something like that. Yeah, very nice of him and all, but come on. A credit to Man Utd?

Many people with similar income to his would say 'feck it' to be honest.

ya but thats not what i asked. im probably targeting you unfairly but in all walks of life you come across people who say the same miserable shit. anybody who is well off is likely to encounter some scoff as if doing something generous when well off is less commendable. complete and utter bitterness and on a side note an example one of my most hated human attitudes.

You really think he decided to help a terminally ill person go enjoy one of his great passions in life one more time just because a bunch of people he doesn't know don't like him and he wanted to win them over? Come on.

exactly. its like on of those pyschological assessment questions where people are asked to summarise a scenario. in this case, anybody that says something of that sorts, has their own problems.

Orton and December, you look like a pair of twats in this thread.

Well done Smashley. Always gives his all and loves being here. Great gesture.

Well done to him, iirc there's a few of these stories around regarding Young. Seems a top bloke.

The man looks like he's telling him to get the feck out of his house

He is a credit to himself definitely. He isn't doing it for the club though, he's doing it because he wants to, and is in a position to be able to help.

Always wondered if people who argue that they'd be charitable as well if they were rich or better off in life actually ever devoted a minute to a charitable cause. You know, there's plenty of places you can help with your time and effort, you don't need to be rich to participate.

My guess is most didn't. I can't believe someone that has actually done charity could be so negative about other people who do the same just because they're better off.

What you're not seeing is the next picture after the handshake where he threw himself to the floor insisting he had his arm broken

Excellent. Never would have had Young down as a footballer of the people, but that's great, and the sneaking in with the away fans is cool.

This makes it much more difficult to despise him. Which up until now he had made incredibly easy.
