Ashes to Ashes

I'm really looking forward to it, as I loved Life On Mars, although I doubt Ashes To Ashes will be able to emulate it's success, should be good though.

It won't be as good as Life on Mars. John Simm is a legend but should be better than the dross usually on.

Can someone explain what is happening, cos I missed the first minute and I'm lost already.

How is Sam Tyler related to this woman ?

She was Sam's psychologist..studied his troubled mind and therefore knows everything about the 1973 shenanigans... and she is well tasty ta boot!

I can't believe how cool the 80's music sounded when mixed with the stylish visuals...the eerie bowiesque Poirot/clown in nearly every scene was another masterstroke. As for what's going on...no! I don't have a clue either!

Pretty good really.

It will have to have a different twist to Life On Mars to keep us all guessing

Never watched much of Life On Mars.

Might have to give it a look now, as this was pretty good.

I hate clowns

I thought some of it was hilarious. Particularly the end when Gene Hunt and his boys showed up on a speedboat with him brandishing an Uzi.

It felt like a parody of eighties cop shows in places, though I suppose that was probably the point. Still, it was fairly entertaining in a tongue-in-cheek sort of way. Probably watch it next week. Just to see if she wears those stockings and suspenders again...

A couple of things. Overall I enjoyed it, however, it appears that they have tried to really ramp up the Genisms, which is a shame, because the proportion was perfect in Life on Mars.

Also: Alex's battle with herself is really going to grate on me if she continues. Sam's battle in LoM, superb. Because Alex knows what is happening kind of, she is going to become this attractive but highly irritating character.

Also, the complete implausibility of her daughter running into the crime scene, complete tosh.

Overall, enjoyable, but a Coca Cola 1 to the Premiership of Life on Mars.

Watch this and study the lyrics and it will all make sense!

Do you remember a guy thats been
In such an early song
Ive heard a rumour from ground control
Oh no, dont say its true

They got a message from the action man
Im happy, hope youre happy too
Ive loved all Ive needed love
Sordid details following

The shrieking of nothing is killing
Just pictures of jap girls in synthesis and i
Aint got no money and I aint got no hair
But Im hoping to kick but the planet its glowing

Ashes to ashes, funk to funky
We know major toms a junkie
Strung out in heavens high
Hitting an all-time low

Time and again I tell myself
Ill stay clean tonight
But the little green wheels are following me
Oh no, not again
Im stuck with a valuable friend
Im happy, hope youre happy too
One flash of light but no smoking pistol :smirk:

I never done good things
I never done bad things
I never did anything out of the blue, woh-o-oh
Want an axe to break the ice
Wanna come down right now

Ashes to ashes, funk to funky
We know major toms a junkie
Strung out in heavens high
Hitting an all-time low

My mother said to get things done
Youd better not mess with major tom
My mother said to get things done
Youd better not mess with major tom
My mother said to get things done
Youd better not mess with major tom
My mother said to get things done
Youd better not mess with major tom

I don't think Bowie ever made a secret of Major Tom being about Heroin, and ashes to Ashes to ashes being about coming off it.

That second episode was a bit of a let down. The first one was better but i'm not sure they'll be able to emulate Life on Mars' success here. Drake is nowhere near as good as Tyler.

Without sounding patronising I reckon you had to have lived through the early 80's to appreciate some of the subtle humour going on... Agreed it has turned into more of a pastiche of 80's cop shows and is playing up more to the Gene Huntisms than Life on mars..but its still bloody good!
And as for:
She's crap! Total crap
are you having a laugh?

So what, she's good looking. Doesn't change the fact that she can't act for shit

Slut fecked a yuppie within five minutes of meeting him...Ive gone right off her now..:(
For some reason the script writers want us to despise her...in fact I have to hold my hands up and admit some of you lot were right the writing is far inferior to Life on Mars..its like they have drafted in some Idiot Eastenders writers to beef up the PC message...disappointing.

I thought it was good, I'm enjoying the series, obviously it's not in the same League at Life on Mars, but it's still good.

And I don't think that she's that bad an actress, certainly not as bad as she is being made out to be, anyway.

Indeed it was, was hoping they would get it together but the chemistry is there and would prob spoil it if they did....roll on the next one....

clown scared me tho

Yeah, certainly, I can't wait.

I thought the bit where she was stuck behind the truck in the present, while on the other side the past was happening (Car being blown up), was very clever indeed.

Just watched the finale to this and what a finale it was!
And seconded, Patti. That clown shits me right up, especially when it turned out it was her dad! A little wink and bang!

Bump.

Does anybody know when the series 2 will come ut? I reckon it will be 2009 but does anyone has a clue?
