So you think you're on a downhill slope then?

We have developed as a team this season, and have added a new dimension to our game. Unfortunately we had to go through a natural transitional phase - which probably is still ongoing.
But we have IMO a better squad than ever now, and two additions to our defense and a new striker and we'll have a near to perfect squad.

So you've got a better squad now than last year ( when you won the title) but need 3 new players?

Yeah, we've gone back a bit whereas our main competitors have taken a few steps forward. Need to do some hard work to get players like Brown to the next level and one or two good signings, in order to be as competitive as before. Does feel temporary because we have a good spine to build on and a very good manager and the resources to compete for players in the transfer market which will be busy this year when the WC will act as a shopping window.

Do you think that your summer signings are crucial in terms of your supposed recovery?

Seeing as Johnsen, Blanc, Irwin, Fortune and Yorke are all likely to leave - yes

Hmmm, we sold stam a world class defender. He needs to be replaced. You can't throw that kind of a responsibility on a 23 year old kid. So in the defence I think it's vital. On ther other hand Beckham, giggs and scholes are basically peaking in their careers now, they've never been as good before. Therefore I wouldn't say it's vital, we can manage but a defender would IMO be a good solution. And what's important is to the comparing with our main competitors, you and Arsenal. You've progressed this season and will probably try to do so next year therefore we can't afford to stand still and one or 2 signings could be vital here.

Rubbish mate, we're half as good as we were two years ago. Transition is something to do with that, though I think the Veron transition was unneccesary. But our squad has greatly deteriorated and will even more so this summer when a lot more than 4 players will leave, see the 'Seriously then' thread in the transfer forum to see who.

I agree that you certainly need a decent CB as the ones you have are not up to it....this is your most vital business in the summer IMO
Obviously your midfield is fine, and you'd expect the likes of Scholes to improve next season..
What about up front tho? Do you go for someone of proven quality who will really compete with Van Divealrooy and OGS? Or a promising youngster for fourth choice behind Sally Gunnell? This will be interesting..
New keeper?

IMO we will/have come out better from this transition. As I said, we've added another dimension to our game, we're not as predictable as we were the last couple of seasons, something that we'll stand us good, especially in Europe. Ironically, this has IMO come as a result of trying to fit Veron into the team. So, even though Veron hasn't been a success so far, something good has come out of it.

I agree
It used to be predictable that you'd win more games, you've added the dimension of losing regularly..
Fantastic..

We need one and those who are selling them knows this, consequently all fees are going to astronomical. You're OTT with the current state of the D though.
"Obviously your midfield is fine, and you'd expect the likes of Scholes to improve next season.."
, I'm impressed that you managed to have a go at Scholes here. The best midfield in the league.

Dunno, not a big deal, we have 2 excellent ones and one who can improve. As we have it pretty much covered and can manage with what we have I'd say invest in the future and get in a young talent who is able to push the regular ones. We can let them develop and gradually push for a regular place.
"New keeper?"
No, FB can do the job why do any unnecessary spending. But his risc taking is something I simply can not fecking understand. why does he take them it's so fecking unnecessary and it adds nothing of value. His job is to stop the shots and not run around playing sweeper. He needs to re-evaluate his risc taking. When he makes UNNECESSARY mistakes it is fecking costly.

You're right, it was very predictable us winning games, now this year you just can't tell if we will win against Boro or not. And this unpredictability really did well in the CL, one match we were great and the next we were poor. A bit like Veron.

Sometimes you've got to look beyon the results, and look at the way we play Neil. Can you not see a change in our style from previous years?

Not the most helpful for replying...
We'll see re your defence....your current best 2 CB are Blanc and Johnsen IMO...neither of which are confirmed as being there next season..but yes, you do need at least one CB
Scholes hasn't had a great season by his standards tho has he? I'm sure you'll agree with that....
You need to offload Veron IMO, I'm hoping that you don't..
If you buy a young promising striker then you're going to have problems if anything happens to either of your first choice pair?
Seems to be a bit of a split on here re Bobo, as to whether he should be replaced or not...

How would offloading Veron improve our squad? Only reason I can see is because we need to money but when thinking of the football only I can't see how we can get a better squad by selling a international class player. One of the problems at the moment is that we haven't got as good reserves as our main competitors which becomes visible when we have alot of injuries and the main players become tired. How can we cure this situation and improve our team by selling the players that actually are international class? You're again counting some ROI ratio and only thinking of the financial state of the club. If you want to improve you have start off by getting rid of the players that are worse than Veron eh?

Spot on
If Veron is sold, we'll have to replace him, as proved by the recent injuries in midfield

I reckon that Demento plays Veron due to a mixture of "pressure" due to his huge fee, and stubborness - that he wants to be proven correct in signing him
You're a better team without him playing IMO, he buggers up your style..so you offloading him, and no doubt replacing him, is likely to benefit you..
I agree that you need better cover....I reckon Duff would be a very useful signing for you if that rumours to be believed..

If that's the case it's a managerial mistake. Still doesn't make the point valid. Seems a tad ridiculous if we have to start selling our players just so that Fergie wouldn't be tempted to use him.
If we have the cash for other signings and he wants to stay and fight for his place I can't see any reasons in selling him. Don't see why buying Duff would mean that Veron has to leave. It's time we get some competetion for every place. I have to say that improving the midfield is the lowest on the priority list. IMO ofcourse

It does make the point valid because that managerial mistake will continue...and yes I agree, it is ridiculous
You don't have to sell Veron to buy Duff, they were unrelated points..just reckon Duff would be useful for you cnuts...

That's exactly my view on it as well. Having 6 quality midfielders can only be good for the team - unless some of them are reluctant to be benched from time to time. In that case sell the ones that are.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ipswich, fighting for their lives, get a result at Unfilled, but to be honest I don't care at all if we finish 2nd or 3rd. We didn't finish top, which is what counts..

Which is Veron in this case.
Regarding our style, I think it has noticeably degraded. We used to be a counter attacking team that play quick one touch football. It was devastating. Last night is what we've become, frantic passing around their box, and continually keeping the pressure on hoping that their defence breaks (which it won't with everyone behind the ball) and instead leaving acres of space behind us for them to counter-attack into.

We have played some breathtaking football this season, some of the best I've seen us play in some game. Obviously we will get stuck at times, just like every team does - Real Madrid included. What we have to improve is our consistency, which we can only do by playing a more set team.
