Are we Man City in disguise?

Nowhere near yet, but this time next season will be somewhat closer I think.

Same philosophy yes bit it is implemented at a much much higher level. From the managers perspective and the caliber of players available too.

yes i agree, and i think more than we should be, especially with inverted full backs, wide wingers. inverted does not suit the FB we have, shaw is a good overlaper and dalots likes to invert but his end product from doing it has always been woefull, also i think we need our wide players closer to goal as there our biggest goal threat atm

Quite a brilliant disguise I must say.

Well, Pep himself has told he follows Cruyff way of playing which is what majority of Dutch managers love to take as a template. Not everyone is as successful as him though .

LVG failed miserably with us.

Feck me. In my 26 years of supporting this club I never thought one day we would be discussing whether we are city in disguise. But I guess that's what a decade in the wilderness will do to you. Anyway on the comparison with City, I think their squad is 2x better than us, man for man, in most positions barring center backs. And that's why they play the ruthlessly technical game. It will take a hell lot of investment to catch up. But if they keep buying the elite potentials such as Haaland and now Bellingham, then such gap may never be bridged.

Blimey, if ever a thread needed its title to change...

Sounds like you're comparing us to them as a club.

Football wise- no, we're nowhere near them. Nobody can do what Pep the bald prick does to the same level.

10 men today against Fulham and it felt like they had 12 men on the pitch.

Yeah, spending 1,25 billion in a team and still needing cheat code attacker to win against mighty Fulham is a really special thing.

I’d actually agree with you if you weren’t completely wrong.

There was a statistical breakdown of how ETH's Ajax team played that showed that the team most similar to them in Europe was Man City. As such, as we progress under ETH we will quite likely come to look more and more like them in terms of the way we try to play.

As of right now though, we're light-years away.

So tell me what I see
When I look in your eyes
Is that you, baby
Or just a brilliant disguise?

Silent domination energy

Fixed it for you.
We had roughly the same spend, but wasted the majority of the money.
How many times it must be said;
1. He inherited top squad already.
2. Our 5 managers spend that amount. He alone spend more than them

We're more similar to Arteta's Arsenal but with worse players I'd say.

Well yeah that's why we got ten hag in the first place (if by city you mean modern possession based football), not a carbon copy however, ten hag's style at least going off his ajax stint is distinct enough to warrant separation , we'll get a better sense of his style as he gets more time and gets to bring in the players he likes.

Not even a full season yet... :nono:

But yeah, I enjoyed the fact that the team is able to play possession football (sometimes) compared to previous seasons where they couldn't even string 2-3 passes without giving the ball to opponent.

Such a strange thread. I wouldn’t even say ETH at Ajax played like City do now unless you are basically saying all teams who want possession are the same. It’s like saying are City Wenger’s Arsenal in disguise?

so...are we still city in disguise or we notts forrest in disguise now?

Truly dreadful, embarrassing thread.

We're similar in as far as we both play on grass and kick a round thing about. In our case we at least attempt to kick it about anyway
