How long do players normally get off? If it's about a month then you'd expect them to be back soon, even if it's not today. Madrid are unveiling all their new signings this week (bar Kaka, who they've already done), so I assume that their pre-season starts soon, and the Spanish league begins later than the English.
 
Are the Getty Images being the only sane one today?

Michael Owen met his Manchester United team-mates for the first time after completing his controversial move on a free transfer from Newcastle as the Premier League champions returned to pre-season training.

The former Liverpool striker will have to wait until Thursday, though, to be put through his paces alongside Wayne Rooney, one of a number of players involved in post-season World Cup qualifiers given an extended holiday by Sir Alex Ferguson.

Luis Antonio Valencia, the club's only other summer signing after his £16 million switch from Wigan, is currently on holiday in Ecuador and will return to training at a later date.

United travel to Malaysia and China next week to begin their pre-season tour of the Far East.

Only some of them are back today. Those who were involved in the qualifiers will be back on Thursday according to the Telegraph.
