Anyone run SLi?

Performance gains?

With two of those in one computer?

You'd bloody think so!

Yes i know there would be a performance gain having 2....otherwise whats the point.

Kinda wondering how big a gain is it?:smirk:

I'm completely new to SLi

Not sure how much performance gain you would get. I doubt it would be twice as fast or anything but you would expect a bit. Try it? :D

I assume it to be dependent on how the application is written, firstly if its supported and secondly how well it reacts to two. Also what other specification you computer has and if the system will 'bottleneck' the performance. You probably have a top notch computer though and a game like Crysis would be find in that respect. I don't know a lot about it though, you could try looking for some info at: www.tomshardware.com

or this place which is class - http://www.guru3d.com/

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=122893 - nice starter thread about SLi as you said you were new to it

crossfire > sli :smirk:

do you have two pci e 2.0 slots with x16 ??

Comp specs are.

Intel e6850 3.0Ghz
Ram will be 8 gigs OCZ Platinum DDR2 PC8000(4 X 2 gig)
Windows Vista Ultimate
Plus 2 X EVGA 8800GT cards
Antec 900 gaming case - very good cooling....like 8 120mm fans and a huge 200mm fan on top

The CPU will eventually be upgraded but i think its fine for now....plus im waiting for high end quad cores to come right down in price

what are you waiting for then ?

obviously 2 cards are better than 1

I'm waiting until i get the card from my mate on Monday.

In the meantime i thought i might get some info on it from people that run 2 cards:smirk:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 3.0GHz should be good enough for those specs

i bought core 2 quad q6600 for $190

ive got a msi 3870 gddr4 512mb card on an asus p5q pro with 4 gigs of ram

ran out of money otherwise i would have bought two 4870's

I've heard of a few people that over clock those to over 3.0Ghz.....all you need is a water cooling system:smirk:
