Any space for Butt? 4 new midfielders!!

With Keano back soon, P.Nev doing great and even Quinton performing very well in the holding position, I think it's gonna be very hard for good ol' Nicky Butt to get in again...
On top of it all, JOS loves it too, is he surpluss to requirements....

And I was just thinking what's gonna happen in around 3-4 years from now, when Giggsy, Beck's, Keano, Butt, Scholsey, etc will be into their thirties, and when Man Utd get rid of them, we'll have to plunge into the transfer market for literally 4 new midfielders...
I doubt we'll ever be able to find that quality (esp. Homemade) again!

Please, think of something!! he he he
:p

He was very unfortunate to be injured for so long. With Keano coming back I think he definitely need to spend some time on the bench to wait for his chance. When one of Keano/Veron/Scholes is suspended or injured then he will have chance to play. I don't think Phil or Fortune has done enough to show that they are better then Butt, so they won't be an obstacle of Butt for his place.

Newcastle, Basel, Liverpool, Arsenal, Deportivo, Chelsea ????

Bayern have a policy of all their "spine" players being mature - normally that means in their peak years. E.g. this year they bought Ballack and Deisler for CM, even though the highly promising Hargreaves is already in the squad. They just said to him he'd have to wait!

I like to have a nice and young squad...
Fresh, pacey and full of enthusuasim...
That just shows why Bayern are already knocked out of the Champ's League!

In Champ Manager I did the same thing, kept a VERY young squad (except Beck's until he was 35)
and it worked (and I made 100 mill profit every year, and won the Premiership every year for about 9 years ina row, beside the Champ's League and numerous other cups), I know that this wont actually apply to REAL football, but you know young squads are exciting to watch (just like we are now!)

Bayern, Barca, Roma, etc have very old squads, except a few exceptions and they are all boring to watch...

ps. When does my status become a 'First Team player'?!!! :D

When you've made 5000 posts. ;)

Looks like Nicky's targetting Boxing Day for his return. I was just thinking about what our bench could look like against Middlesbrough:

Becks, Rio, Diego, (Keano or Nicky or Phil) and Ricardo/Carroll - Not too bad, is it?

We'll still have Phil

I don't think Butt will have much problem fitting in.. if he's as patient as Ole he will again get his chances..

I personally admire Ole's courage for accepting his place as simply a 'rotation' player despite all the good performances.. I would like to believe that Butt is the same..

And i'm quite certain Butt will get more and more games down the road..

Let's admit it, Fortune is more of Giggs & JSV's substitute and Phil is a full back substitute.. so Butt is still first right behind Keane IMO.

I don't agree with uranus but i believe Butt will still be right behind keane because once everybody is fit, Phil is a full back sub, and Fortune is Giggs & JSV's subs.. they both know it and i don't think they'll have problems taking it when Butt is chosen over them in midfield either.

They didn't play "better" than Keano nor butt. If you replace Phil with a fit Nicky Butt in those games you mentioned, do you think we would have lost them all? I don't think so. Phil has done a very good job but to say he is a world class defensive midfielder (just like Keano or Butt) is too much. Phil or Fortune has proved that we can trust them to do the job when we are in an injury crisis, but nothing more.

Thats what you would think from a logical point of view and I've not been a fan of Phil or Quinton in the past. I've also felt that Ole was wasted on the right and that Barthez was somewhat unreliable. I was concerned that Silvestre would not be a success at CB, as has been the case when he was tried there before.. But all that has been turned on its head by the recent performances during which you could not have asked or expected more from any of those players. It has been all about spirit, commitment and simply gelling as a team. You would think that Keane, Butt, Becks and Rio being undoubtedly better players would be able to improve on the performances even more. There's no guarantee that they will though. I would not be in a hurry to change things and I'm sure Fergie won't either.

I understand what you mean. But Keano certainly is an exception. Fergie will put him back as soon as he is fit again. After Keano get a few games, and Butt also returns to training, everything will "return normal". Butt will be our 2nd choice defensive midfielder again.

i agree keane will wall back strait into first 11, yup i know the current 11 deserve to play, but keane is something special, maybe we will be leading the table by now if he is not out for 4 month

Sky Sports News are saying he's due back for the New Year's Day game. Not sure if thats 'fit for' or 'should start', but I would guess the former.
