Yet he’s scored some cracking goals and hit the woodwork numerous times with these fundamental technical flaws you describe.

Isn’t it much more likely he’s snatching at shots because his confidence is at an all time low?

Bit of an odd defence of him considering he has dozens and dozens of poor shots from outside the box even since his first year here. Heck it's not even outside the box shots, it's a variety of them, like the 3-on-1 break away on his left foot and into his stride at the end of tonight's match. To me it's not even a subjective thing like whether he can contribute to the team going forward; through the eye test and statistically he must be one of the worst strikers of the ball in the team. Poor shot selection, poor technique and poor approach.

I've not been one to criticise him overly since his time here and don't really blame him for his transfer but his shooting technique is objectively bad despite him scoring a few crackers.

Confidence is definitely an issue and I think he can improve because he does have good technique and gets into good positions but his shooting form is downright bad. Also he isn't snatching at shots because that would imply he doesn't have much time or space when that's definitely not the case. He's not in the 6 yard box being fired a pass at feet, with defenders all over him and scrambling to get a shot on target. The shots he taking is when he's done well to make space to cut inside and is on the right edge of the penalty box. The issue is that he's taking a shot with no momentum/run up and trying to beat the keeper at the far post with a instep curler with no power or guile. That's completely different to the beauty he scored at the Emptyhad 2 years ago.

Changed the game when he came on by creating the chance that led to our first goal, should have had an assist straight after as well but Hojlund failed to finish.
I’m guessing you still think he’s better than Amad?

He's a decent passer of the ball, reliable in possession, works hard and also has spurts of being able to beat his man.

He's a moderate level of Premier League player. People need to just forget about the fee which is already gone and realise that he's just a serviceable backup option for as long as he's here.

Overall regardless of his fee, he is simply not good enough. He has featured in load of games and yet I struggle to think of one where you can say he was motm.

He combined well with Amad multiple times once he came on, which elevated both of their performances and the performance of the team in general. Obviously made a few mistakes as well, but there was enough promise in that Amad-Antony combo that I would like to see it given a run-out a few more times.

Still think it makes more sense to play him as a LWB so he can overlap and go outside, this forces him to come inside and tempts him to shoot more which is never good

He is a strange player. He clearly knows how to shoot and curl them into the top corner. He's done it in the PL as well, so it's not just a case of a lesser league. He also has the ability to accelerate past players. He's actually very quick on the first 10 yards or so, but when he's not on it, he leans too far forwards and almost stumble every time he accelerates. I think ETH said he has the best acceleration in the squad. His shots, when he's off form, he scuffs them or loses patience - something is wrong. He does have the ability. I wonder if he's a bit like Onana - if he could only get a nice string of games where he performs well, he can show some real quality.

How is he doing? Is he even getting game time for them?

I know it’s not likely but his hard work and pace could be invaluable to our squad. Could see him playing wingback, winger, or 10

The issue is predictability. He can do nothing else. He's stopped scoring his curlers because the keepers are already moving to their right to stop it. If he could vary it, shoot lower, go near post, or with less backlift he would actually get more success. He can make himself half a yard but his first instinct is to look for the shot on his left.

For as bad as he is, I'd be playing him over Rashford even if it means him being out of position. He can hold a ball up and passes better than a lot in the team.

Some usual brain dead moments, but thought he combined well with Amad. Good to see.

I think it's because I'm comparing him to Zirkzee, but honestly I am starting to think this lad isn't as horribly shit as I once thought...

We really need more attacking threat from our wing backs. Maybe not against City, but I’d give him a try at either left or right WB.
Dalot cannot play there, who I don’t think has a future at united.

Hoping he gets some goals and assists in the remainder so there is a chance we can offload him to someone.

If him and mount can turnaround their United career, we would be set up for a good team. I am not hoping for Antony to become a world beater but possibly give 7/10 performance consistently. It would help him tremendously if he isn’t expected to be one of the main attackers but only a cog in the wheel helping ball progression and providing key passes into box.

Are you serious? Dan James? I think we’d have hit rock bottom if we had to bring Dan James back. I’d rather bring Perreira back if we’re scraping the barrel of ex players.

I know it would never happen.

But I think that he’d be a great squad player for this style, hard working, pacey a n d flexible

We should just flog our current players and get them to work hard! Easier said than done with some of this bunch though,

I don't know, if we want to keep fighting for a spot in that prestigious top 15 in the league I think James could come in and do a job. Bring back ETH as well if Amorim doesn't work out and we'll have a decent shot.

Man City 1:2 Man Utd New
Thought he was good again in his cameo.

Came on, wanted the ball and caused a few problems for city defence.

Him as a wing back playing with Amad is the way to go with him. He did good enough job.

Can he work on the left? On the right Maz is such a baller he won't get a sniff ahead of him. Dalot on the other hand is pretty wank so it would be handy if he could be tried there

If nothing else, he puts a shift in when he gets onto the pitch.

It looks like we're playing to his strengths a lot more, with more players around for him to bounce passes off.

It'll be one hell of a laugh if Amorim manages to get a tune out of him, given that he's basically the poster boy for the things that went wrong with Ten Hag's reign.

I don't see him working as a very reliable forward option with good goal or assist outputs. At least, not in that front 3. But, repurposing him as a rwb seems like an idea. He'll have to make that work if he wants to play.

He actually looked like a better option than Dalot.

If he can work on his defensive side he could be a good rotation for the rwb spot. His strengths have always been his workrate and interplay. Which is why I think he looks good on the right when playing with Amad.
