From the usually reliable skysports:
Manchester City have emerged as favourites to sign Nicolas Anelka.

Anelka's Monaco-based agent, Willie McKay, claims City head a queue of seven clubs trying to sign the French striker following the collapse of his move to Liverpool.

Kevin Keegan is known to be a big admirer of the £13million-rated striker.

Anelka, who is also being linked with Manchester United, has been told he has no future at Paris St Germain and McKay claims the transfer to City could be completed by the end of the week.

"Nicolas has got his heart set on playing next season for Kevin Keegan, whom he has enormous respect for," said McKay.

"Kevin is very easy to work with and once he has got his sights on signing a player he doesn't hang around.

"I think the move to Maine Road for Anelka could be finalised before the end of this week."

McKay added that the 23-year-old is keen to join City after talking with his friend and former PSG team-mate Ali Benarbia.

"Anelka is a close friend of Ali Benarbia, who was his former team-mate at Paris St Germain," he said in the Manchester Evening News.

"Ali telephoned him and really sold Manchester City to him. Ali told Nicolas all about the fantastic fans at Maine Road, the new stadium and Keegan's plans to turn City into a major Premiership force and that was just what Nicolas wanted to hear.

"Nicolas and myself have talked about Manchester City and we both agree that there couldn't be a better time to be signing for them."

Signing Anelka would smash City's current transfer record of £5million, which they paid Preston for Jon Macken earlier this year.

How many agents has this kid got??

This is a load of rubbish - because Softy told us Anelkas agent is not Willie McKay but Marc Roger.

You must check with the all seeing all knowing Softy before you post things Neil.

;)

I wonder how on earth City could afford a 13m player.

The Manchester City council are taking "a Real Madrid" to help City out... :D

I see, so City are buying MASSIVE rejects - Macken, Anelka etc.

Saying that, Anelka is a good player on form but he will never be able to settle down - Keegan can't handle him.

So what's going to happen to the Goat ? You know what to do Fergie ! ;)
