Chelsea have had an offer in excess of £16m for the Germany winger Andre Schürrle rejected by Bayer Leverkusen, according to the German newspaper Express.

"We were presented with a very concrete offer from Chelsea for Andre of beyond the €20m mark. The sum was pushed back and forth between the two clubs. We ultimately chose Andre," the Leverkusen chief executive, Wolfgang Holzhauser, was quoted as saying by German news agency SID.

"Andre is very valuable for us. He has also made it clear he would like to stay with us."

The 21-year-old has established himself as one of Germany's most exciting young talents since joining Leverkusen from Mainz last year and won his 16th cap for Germany at Euro 2012, where he impressed in the quarter-final win over Greece.

Anyone who watches Leverkusen want to weigh in on this guy?

I thought he looked pretty good for Germany at the Euros in his sub appearance against Denmark and his start in the 4-2 victory against Greece.

Wasn't massively excited about him, Reus looked a lot better.

He looked good at the euros. A lot of young German talent at the moment including Reus, kroos, Goetze etc. Hard to tell which ones will step up to become really world class

Didnt think he played well at the euros, but was very impressed with him when I saw him over 2 legs against Valencia and he was pretty good against Chelsea too from what I recall

Fast, direct dribbler with a good shot

I rate him higher than Marin thats for sure

He is the one who ran inside from the left and had his shot blocked to a corner every time wasn't he ? And then held his head in disbelief at only getting a corner when the ball should be in the net :)

Didn't enjoy the best Euro. But his goal ratio for Germany is quite impressive, 7 in 16. I think he's got great talent.

I think Reus and gotze are nailed on to become world class, kroos looks like a really good player as well. Schurrle though was poor in the bit he played in the euros. I won't judge him purely on that though, because I haven't really seen him before properly but the bit I saw of him is that he looked really frustrating, and a class below ozil, Reus and Germany's other players. Better than Podolski though.

He's better than Podolski now but not really top class. You need to remember he's only 22 though and has plenty of time to improve and also plays in a position where Chelsea could use another player.

He is not better than Poldi. Poldi does not make the tactical mistakes Schürrle does that cost goals. And Poldi looks for the better positioned.

Schürrle has not played a good season. 48 games, 12 goals, 6 assists over all competitions in 4566 minutes - that is one scorerpoint in 254 minutes...

From a player that does not offer more value to his fellow players and is not very strong defensively I expect much more.
