Manchester United Keen On Lazio 'Keeper Fernando Muslera
The Red Devils have laid eyes on the highly-rated shot stopper...

Manchester United are keen on Lazio goalkeeper Fernando Muslera as a replacement for Edwin van der Sar.

According to Sportal.it, the Red Devils have laid eyes on the Uruguayan shot-stopper. Muslera joined the Biancocelesti in 2007, and after a poor start last term, the goalkeeper has improved, attracting plenty of interest in the process.

The report suggests the Old Trafford side are looking at the 23-year-old with a view to signing him in the summer. Although Lazio have claimed their custodian is not for sale, they will likely find it hard to keep him if a good offer should come from England.

Ferguson is said to be looking at a number of candidates as an heir to Van der Sar, and Muslera is on top of his wish-list.

Reports in Italy last week claimed Lazio were ready to offer their man a new deal in an attempt to scare off Premier League interest.

Manchester United have not confirmed their intention to move for the goalkeeper.

Uruguyan goalies tend to be good in their first few years before disapperaing into obscurity. What happened to Fabian Carini (spelling to be checked) who was goalie extraordinare in the early 2000s????

my guess is we're looking at nearly all highly rated young keepers, defenders, midfielders and strikers in europe and probably the world. I'd be very disappointed if we haven't had a look at ustari, akinfeev, neuer, adler and a host of others.

Oh god stay away from Muslera. The guy is shakier than PIG!

I guess he disappeared into obscurity.

I watched Lazio yesterday against Juve and he wasn't all that great. Looks kinda small too.

Strangest transfer of all time when Inter bought him off Juve. I remember him being man of the match a few time for his country but barely played any football in 5 or 6 seasons in Serie A. Plays in brazil these days

I remember how many people wanted us to sign him. And how many people were annoyed when it was claimed he was on his way to Arsenal.

Only thread I've could find.

Since I've only seen him in major tournaments and not in Seria A, how is he there? Bloody brilliant against the Argies. Doesn't seem to have a specific weakness. 25 years old. His stock as at least gone up.

Think the commentary tonight said that he went to Lazio, they lost 5-1 to Milan or something and he was dropped for a 44 year old keeper... So perhaps not as good as he was tonight

He's been first choice at Lazio the last few seasons and has played very well there but usually saves his best for the big tournaments. Had a great World Cup and was excellent again tonight.

Tbf that was back when he was 21 years old and had just moved from Uruguay to Italy.
He regained that spot the next season and has kept it since despite the purchase of another keeper two seasons in a row (Carrizo and Bizzari).
