Wow is all I can say he is just coming off a big Kayo defeat and is already back in the big names!
Although Barrrera is going to be 35 on saturday and has moved up from Bantamweight to finally arrive at lightweight, is still a very game fighter and should give Khan a very hard fight.
Could be the Prince Naseem fight all over again :(
The fight will take place on March 14th

I hope I'm wrong but Amir Khan could be in for an absolute lesson in boxing, Barrera is far to experienced to allow himself to be caught by some of the punches Amir has hurts others with and will know how to exploit Khan's defense which to be honest is still neither here or there.

I thought it was laughable when Scott Harrison was linked with Barrera a few years back, but this could damage a very promising career for Amir.

Why on earth did Amir okay this fight? IF he wins, I suppose it'll kick start his career. But. . . the downside!

Even if he wins people will say that Barrera is old or that he has moved up (even though he has opperated at Lightweight before). It a big risk for little reward.

On a side note I might be having my first fight on feb 13th! Every so often I watch this vid when Im training to let me know what Im getting into and it just lets you know the position boxers put themselves in for our entertainment. Almost makes you want to cry

Seeing as he is training at the Wildcard,he is fighting Barrera and they are trying to introduce him to the us market it would make sense for him to fight in the states but he will be fighting in the UK

Then he is in a lose lose position. I'd rather go to the states get some exposure and make new fans than stay here and get boo'ed by my own

Good point, I'm not saying he wont get any support following him, just that if he does maybe his travelling support will be a little more loyal than the 'fans' at the MEN who gave him an amazing reception, then jumped for joy when he got knocked out.

He was rumoured to have sparred really well with the Pacman before his last fight so he can probably take some confidence from that into the fight. I do think it's a bit of a risk though so soon after the Prescott K.O.

The cynical part of me supposes that Sky TV need a name to sell Pay-per-view subscriptions with!

Unfortunately I don't. Put it up though as I am sure other people will be interested. Was it impressive?

It works on quicktime as well so you can play it with i tunes
It's a bit back and forth and Khan hold his own. Gets rocked in the middle of it but isn't in major trouble as he has a headguard on

Thanks,

I'm at work at the mo but I will check it out later when I get home.

Wow this came from nowhere, interesting to say the least.

Amir done pretty well to hold his own. Pac Man is pretty intense he was offering $1000 to any sparring partner who could knock him down, in the build up to the de la hoya fight.

That video of Gerald McClellan is soo sad, I can remember the Benn fight I was only 10. I think it was the first time when watching boxing that I relised that the two warriors in the ring where so vulnerable. The part towards the end about Roy Jones Jnr being the only one to donate money to him at the time it was filmed is pretty down right awful. In such a money rich industry you'd of thought others would of helped a fallen warrior.

If i show it to my mum she will make me give up boxing. He was on the road to being such a great fighter as well beat Jones Jr in the ams and if he beat ben he would have fought him next.
I read 'War Baby' about the fight

The info it gives is astounding

That fight was heartbreaking, I actually have it on my hard drive and watched it last week. McClellan was incredible, 29 KO's in 30 fights up to that point and just got in the ring and basically decked Benn for 8 rounds until it was pretty apparent McClellan was hurting, he had his gumshield out for best part of the fight trying to breathe, credit to Benn he had some fecking heart in that fight but at the end its gut wrenching watching McClellan lying on the floor and knowing what has happened to him since.

got it on my hard drive too. its hard to watch, people were callin him a quitter because he took the knee and the 10 count little did they know!
McClellan told his corner he would kill them if they pulled him out of the fight but I think sometimes you look past what your fighter says and do whats right

 cant wait to see that... Kahn will get get a pasting....

He's vastly overrated...

he really isn't
he got over hyped in the media but he has the ability to be a very good boxer. good hand speed, fast decent power with a good defensive trainer or if he had a proper trainer from when he turned pro he would be in a SRL position in that he is marketable and had just come from the Olympics (In no way shape or form am i saying he is anywhere near as good as SRL)

I agree he has the potential but right now he's overrated and personally I think they're in danger of totally fecking up his career...

Getting him knocked out was a bit of a slip up... Personally I think this is too big a fight for him, and if he were to be beat again now it'd be very hard for him to come back.

I dont think there is any disgrace in getting beat, I dont understand why British boxers see an undefeated record as the greatest achievable feat.

I would much rather a boxer take the best possible fight available to him, Khan's got a great opportunity in a bout with Barrera, he will not win, but a fight this size will possibly never come around again for him.

Its a smart move by Warren (who blamed Khan's last defeat on himself for picking the wrong opponent), there will be no disgrace in losing to Barrera.

true the number of great fighters with losses on their record by far outweight those with undefeated records

Make or break time then. Hopefully he has learnt a few things. At least we can't say he's fighting some shite opponents now...

Do you think the media had a say? They signed him up for PPV and its been a total let down so far.

2004 Olympic silver medal Amir Khan has vowed to outbox, and beat former three-division champion Marco Antonio Barrera on March 14 in a UK venue to be annoucned at a later date. Khan has one win in the books since being knocked out by Breidis Prescott in 54-seconds last September, but he is confident of beating the legendary veteran. Khan says that he took such a tough fight to shut the mouths of his critics.

"This fight is not a gamble; I'm going to learn so much from it. At this stage, it's brilliant for me," said Khan. "Barrera is tougher than any British fighter - he's in a different league - and I'm going to seize the opportunity with both hands. I want to shut my critics up, prove to them how good I am. I have a point to prove, and this is the time to do it. I'm confident and know I can win. Winning this fight would take me to the next level."

Barrera is the number-one ranked contender to WBO belt being held by Nate Campbell. If Khan pulls off a win, he might be in line for a title shot at the end of the year. Khan's promoter Frank Warren says that his fighter really wanted the challenge of a fight with Barrera.

"This is the right fight for Amir at this stage of his career, and we hope it will bring out the best in him," said Warren. "Talking about fighting Barrera put a twinkle in his eye, and we've delivered it. This puts him well and truly on the world stage.

"Sometimes there are fights and fighters that you should grab when you get the opportunity. I think this is one of those moments. Facing Barrera will be the making of Amir. I can't think during my time in boxing of anyone who has stepped up to fight a quality opponent like Amir is doing after just 20 fights. That tells you something about him."

he seems like he is ready

Khan to fight at MEN Arena
12:35pm Friday 16th January 2009

Amir Khan's blockbuster showdown against Marco Antonio Barrera will take place at Britain's number one boxing venue The Manchester Evening News Arena on Saturday 14 March.

Promoter Frank Warren yesterday announced that Khan would face the seven times, three weight, World champion, and today is delighted to confirm that the 20,000 seat venue will host the epic fight.

The M.E.N Arena has staged the biggest British fights in recent times featuring greats like Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank, Naseem Hamed and more recently classic fights like Joe Calzaghe v Jeff Lacy and Ricky Hatton v Kostya Tszyu.

Bolton hot-shot Khan aims to exorcise his demons at the M.E.N Arena - where he suffered his first professional loss last September to Breidis Prescott - by beating the Mexcian legend and thrusting him back into the elite fighters of the lightweight division.

Khan said, "I'm so happy that the fight is at the M.E.N Arena and it's going to be an absolutely wicked atmosphere on the night that will really get my juices flowing,"

"There have been so many great nights there and I was ringside for Calzaghe v Lacy and Hatton v Tszyu and I believe that my fight against Barrera ranks up alongside those, I just can't wait."

"It's also the perfect opportunity to rid the ghosts of my loss to Breidis Prescott last year and a victory would send my career onto another level."

"This a fight for the fans and a chance for them to see Barrera, who is a living boxing legend, in a British ring against a young fighter who aims to achieve what he has."

Tickets, priced at £40, £50, £75, £100, £150, £200 and £300, go on sale at 9am on Wednesday 21 January. Tickets can be resevered now through See Tickets on 0871 220 0260.
