Or were we on course to win the League and Champion's league until G Neville got injured?

His very vocal organisation of the defence and speed (next to Blanc ;) ) were missed. Even Johnsen, when fit, could not fill that hole in the centre of defence.

Sigh...it seems to me that it was his injury and not Beckham's which really seemed to throw United out of wack.

Can't wait for season to start again.

I think Keano being out for three weeks was more of a problem. He missed all but 10 minutes of the first leg against Leverkusen. If he had been fit, we would have won. Also, he missed the Middlesborough game didn't he?.

We couldn't beat Leverkusen and Arsenal because our attack was poor at that time. Our defence was OK in those few matches.

And moreover, it's too convenient to use one or two key player's injury as excuse. But look at Arsenal, they won the double but how many matches could they start with their first 11 in the whole season?

Dunno about the Boro game as I was out of town and missed it!

I think the string of injuries involving Keane, Beckham and G Neville was something we couldn't quite recover from.

Hey, d'you know if Blanc has signed for another year? Would love to see him play for United some more. The way he was charging forward at United's last league game, sorta looked like someone looking to have a good swansong game though....
:(

Indeed we weren't over the course of the season, but you cocked up with an 11 point ahead with a goal in hand lead.

To be honest, I thought you'd won it at Christmas, but then Houllier came back and screwed it up for you.

United won the same as Liverpool did last season...zippo. Nothing to be proud of Davo.

I think you underestimate the disruption injuries caused. My recalling the injury to Neville in particular is just my gut feeling that that cost us the title. Even with Beckham and Keane injured, I was confident that we'd still be ok.

Yeah we weren't good enough either..I agree..

GH screwed things up? Interesting thought...quite wrong of course

Look at the results after he came back...look at the Hamann substitution for Smicer...

You know its true. Houllier isn't quite his usual self after the operation. In fact his more adventurous approach to the game actually did you guys in. How ironic after we'd been criticising Liverpool for being for boring the entire season.

The results when he came back? Did things improve from our Dec/Jan period or get worse?

Isn't quite his usual self?

Don't forget that Liverpool are going to be super exciting next season with Super Diouf the non-scoring wizard!!!!.

Davo - Seeing as you constantly take the p*ss out of Diego Forlan, how do you feel about Diouf considering in 5 games (plus extra time) he failed to score, and Forlan played only 45 minutes and scored a cracker during the course of the world cup?.

Inconsistency was our demise last year.

1. The inability to get any points off of Arsenal or Liverpool.

2. We couldn't beat West Ham, Boro, and Bolton at OT.

I don't think we would've run into either issue if Stam wasn't sold. Blanc had a good year under the circumstances, but the continuity that was disrupted when Stam was sold and Johnsen got injured again was a big factor imo.

He was class tho eh?

If he hasn't scored after 18 appearances for us I'll start to worry mind..

Marcus I have to say I think there is a element of truth in what you are saying. Or change in form last season was largely down to GN moving into the centre and he is undoubtedly a great organiser at the back. Whatever about winning the two competitions, I have a feeling things would have been diffferent against Leverkusen had Gaz Neville stayed on the pitch in the first leg at OT. Once he went off it was back to the crazy defending were plauged by all season. G Neville is the most under-rated player at OT.

Of course he was his usual self: managed to keep Liverpool in the top three, without winning any major trophies. Expect the usual from Houllier, the most overrated manager in the game, next season.

Yep, well done, congratulations, enjoy your glory. I also forgot that you won your two cup finals, too -- the matches against United.

But let's face it. United don't have such dips in form two years running, and even the greatest manager in the world (Houllier) will be chuffed if you manage to hold the form that took you to second place.

After all, long ball football has its limitations. Wimbledon only got so far, and England hardly set the world on fire in the World Cup...

Ahhhh...so you what you're basically saying is that you'll be better than us NEXT SEASON..

I like the way you deem our matches with you to be "cup finals", we actually think of them as 6 easy points..

United see Liverpool games as giving to charity - giving points to a team who need them more.

Sort of an Ex-Champions in Need. Perhaps we could come up with a version of Pudsey bear - Owen bear, with plenty of bandages.

Yep. Like we were the season before last, the one before that, the one before that, the one before that, the one before that, the one before that, the one before that, the one before that, the one before that.... (sorry, I've lost count now)

Playing non-cautious football if you know what I mean.

If PT *shock*, had been in charge of you vs Leverkusen, you might actually have held on to that lead.

Ah well...lets see which Houllier shows up next season.

Anyway, back to my thread. G Neville is class.

You're just being silly now cause last season hurt so much...

Ahhhhh

Now you want to look back to the past..

Fortunately we're the most successful English club..

Our past beats yours as does our present...

3 times last season

Nah!
The league in the last decade ?
Nah!

Only?

The false treble and 12 points against us?

Oh will will you?

You Mancs have turned full circle...you whinge about us going on about the past/looking ahead and now you're all doing exactly the same..

NEXT SEASON/last 12 years are your current points of issue when comparing yourselves to us...how about either last season or total history?

Can't have that now can you?

Third rate outfit.. ;)

Is Houllier guaranteed to be at Anfield next year? Thought he'd be pretty keen on the French job.

Here's a NEXT SEASON query..

I would say so yes

FFS Davo - you bloody exist to bleat on and on about Man Utd vs Liverpool.

Whilst Man Utd are on a mission to become the best in the world, you, like City, like Leeds are still on that "We're better than Man Utd" crap.

You are obviously beaming at the notion of "1 place up from Man Utd" but we dont give a toss about finishing how many places above the so called greatest English club of all time. All we care about is how many trophies we lift. Anything less is a failure. How the mighty have fallen. Your lot now live off Man Utd, and you have abandoned your own brand of football. Its a pity.

No matter how many times you come on here arguing and boasting about Liverpool vs Utd, nothing will change.

What are you bleating on about?

I didn't bring Liverpool v Man Utd into this thread..that was one of yours..

Nice speech about nothing tho dipshit.. ;)

That's a 10/4 from me of course.

Looks like Stepney agrees with me, his quotes being in the context of Barthez...

"Gary Neville came in and played centre-back and he is a natural organiser and United went on that fantastic run, " said Stepney hero of the United side which won the European Cup 32 years ago."

Davo - go and have a lie down before you pop a fuse.

No body gives a shit.

Obviously we dont like lending our Prem crown to anyone else, but Fergy has to do that occassionally to bump up his transfer coffers. ;)

You had your one shot last season and you know it. Why else would you come to a Man Utd forum? Answer: You're trying to a few petty digs in while you can. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

Either that or you're distracting us while your mates pop round and take our wheels... I'm off to check right now

And this is an example of self-denial. A very tragic state of human personality.

i.e. Liverpool didnt win anything - Davo thinks "we beat Man Utd!"

Liverpool play shit football - Davo thinks "We won the Treble!"

In any argument - Davo is never to blame. "Wos one of you mancs wot did it!"

Davo is NOT obsessed with Man Utd.

Davo is NOT on Red Cafe everyday trying to argue about MUFC vs LFC. Davo just trying to make friends and have clever conversations about football related issues.

I'm not an alcoholic!! I can stop WHENEVER I WANT!!! = self denial.

Grow up, get a life. I like the way you resorted to name calling - it shows I hit on a little bit of truth at least.

Fair dos though SC there's nothing wrong with a bit of name calling. Eh Davo, you kin Lawand.

You didn't get anywhere near the truth..

You accused me of starting a LFC v Manc "battle", when I clearly did not, and then ranted on about nothing ( as you have done again )

I won't hold out for an apology re this unfounded claim...

I'm sorry if I upset and confused you..
