Allan Saint-Maximin - Confirms departure

I read somewhere that the Saudi club (no one knows what they’re called) are willing to pay £200m for him. Newcastle can’t turn that down given FFP.

Well that's gonna look just a tad suss if Saudi club buys him from Saudi owned Newcastle. No dodginess going on here, not at all....

Surely this can't be allowed. The ways around it are just getting more and more blatant.

It's 25m euros apparently, which is a very modest fee.
Got a source for this? Would be a bargain if so, given the current market. He's not brilliant, but in light of other deals there's no chance he's worth less than 40

Howe benched him a lot last season, but I’m a bit surprised he’s being let go, he’s a genuine game changer and they’re rare.

Unless the players unhappy or there’s something shifty going on

Was a l'equipe article that I can't seem to find at the moment. Even if it's wrong, it's not going to be a million miles off, he's supposedly transfer listed.

Would be very cheap at that imo. I know he massively lacks end product but he absolutely terrifies defenders and could still improve his end product. Wasn't amad not far off 25 mill several years ago?

I think Howe doesn't seem to like him, because he's not a player that is disciplined enough to play his system. He does a lot of running, takes players on and can occasionally do something good. But he's a bit headless and his decision making is questionable at best. His defensive work rate is also pretty non existent.

Basically he's all fart and no shit.

That being said if he gets bought by a club that Newcastle's owners also own, the PL will have to do something block the move.

Can be frustrating but he's one of the better wingers in the league. If he really is available then I'd love for is to go for him.

I disagree with this, he’s a winger that does produce a bit of shit after all the farting.

He had a tough season last season when he was only playing short spells, but before that he’s had long periods of being genuinely dangerous and producing at the end of it. A bit like an Adama Traore but with an end product.

You’re correct though he’s not disciplined enough to play in a heavily structured team, which is a right shame as he’s a special player and entertaining as feck.

I think his style leads to a lot of injuries which is one of the reasons they are getting rid.

I agree, he's an exciting player to watch. But I'd say on average his productivity and all round attacking contribution is roughly on a par with Adama Traore.

Definitely does not have the discipline and defensive work rate to play under Howe.

He might just produce a bit of a nugget every now and again.

He's a weird player. He gets unfairly lumped with Adama type players, but he's a lot more refined and technically proficient than him. He's always incredibly dangerous when he plays and creates a lot of chances or causes chaos. He just somehow doesn't end up with the numbers to back it up.

Normally I'd be questioning Howe for letting him go but you can't argue with the results he's had through the system he employs. He's turned Joelinton into a good CM, Dan Burn is the most awkward looking left back but he just works. He seems to have a grip on things Eddie Howe. Going from him to Harvey Barnes seems a downgrade to me, but obviously Howe thinks he will suit their system better.

ASM would probably work well for us due to our reliance on playing on the counter and individuality. We're not as aggressive as Newcastle, or as possession orientated, which is probably where ASM falls short. If we were to sell Sancho then he'd be a good buy for us, especially at that price.

Have always thought Newcastle don't use his strengths to their advantage.

For £25m I'd definitely be considering it. Be a good option for counter attacking games or killing games off - Rashford, Antony and this guy all looking for a decent through ball to explode onto. Not a priority but would be useful and relatively good value for money - cant see him being on a big wage at Newcastle.

Be glad if he goes always gave our defenders a torrid time turning them inside out. Low fee for him to be leaving as well, worth twice that, although not as consistent as he needs to be for the premier league and a team that wants to challenge for the title.

Is he still better than Rashford?

Few said how he will score and assist a lot of he plays for good team, now that Newcastle are good team they are shipping him out.

Scored one of the best goals last season, and a very useful player but struggles with injuries. Sometimes I think we should be interested but the injury record puts me off.

You’d have thought that the Saudis would inflate the fee being paid to help out Newcastle with FFP, so I’m very surprised by this.

If they're not planning on spending much more this window, then they only need to balance the books. Inflating a fee this year to benefit future years is probably something they are watching very closely what the outcome is at City.

Also, I think they quite like being under the radar at this stage in their 'project'. Contrast the way they are going about business to the way City threw money around in their early days. If they have long term success genuinely in mind, then they are at least building on what the club already had, rather than blatantly cheating.

Not defending the practice, but isn't this something City have done before between clubs owned by the City Group? If the fee is deemed market-related then it's unlikely the PL will do anything.

Why are they so willing to sell him for such a small fee too? He is extremely dangerous and direct. Happy if he leaves the league.

Extremely inconsistent. The only reason defenders struggled against him is because he himself didn't know what he was going to do with the ball. €25m is about right considering he is moving from Saudi Arabia to Saudi Arabia.

St Maximin is finishing early his carrer then. It's a shame as he is a good player.

He could play at very good level still so very odd choice.

I reckon than Newcastle will then send a loan to PSG for Neymar.

They're signing Harvey Barnes

No ides he was 26 already, the inconsistencies in his game should be getting ironed out by now, it seems he hasn't improved from his early days.

It's a shame that flair players like him no longer have a place at the highest table in the modern game, its just too structured to allow for it.

Believe so, they did it with Lampard and maybe a few other low profile players like Mooy. But those clubs were all under the city group umbrella. So they weren't essentially buying players off themselves to boost finances.

If the fee is deemed market related. They would have to see if Newcastle would accept a 25m bid from Wolves or Spurs or Villa. Or even Napoli if they are interested as reported.
