I know we almost had them in the final but if you were building from scratch with no restrictions, what would your all-time Beer and Wine sides be.

Beer Countries: Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland,

Wine Countries: Spain, France, Portugal, Italy,

Here's my Beer XI -

Giggs.........MVB............Finney

I'm really not sure how well Cristiano would get on with that midfield. Cristiano would shoot from stupid angles and annoy Xavi, and Cristiano would be annoyed because he wouldn't get the ball fast enough.

Cristiano Ronaldo replaced with David Villa? For balance, off-ball workrate and synergy with midfield.

That's the best wine back four for me too.

I'm pretty sure that Cristiano would be ecstatic to get that kind of service... and Xavi isn't really the type to get annoyed by someone. Cristiano is also the only selfish player in that front line — and for a reason.

@Gio was on the right track.....

buffon
thuram scirea maldini facchetti
desailly
suarez zidane/iniesta
conti benzema cristiano

zona mista, cant be bothered with placements but you get the theme with old madrid version of ronaldo playing behind benzema.

with kaiser and cruyff available, total football is a way to go....

neuer
lahm stam rio breitner
schweini
beckenbauer vanhanegem
gullit cruyff rooney

edit: and the moron forgots kaiser  bye bye dm fraud

Ronaldo’s reputation on this forum (the draft one, not forum as a whole) has never been lower and is probably the most extreme example at the moment of an instance where drafting reputation doesn’t align with the general views of football fans. The idea that a manager or club would take Villa over Cristiano is ridiculous in reality - which is not criticism on Villa it’s just a reflection of Ronaldo’s ability more than anything.

Another go at the Beer countries, moving away from the total football philosophy or any players I'd drafted, instead a wingless wonders XI which has a bit of everything:

1 NEUER

2 LAHM - 4 STAM - 5 McGRATH - 3 BREHME

7 SCHWEINSTEIGER

17 DE BRUYNE - 9 CHARLTON - 6 LERBY

10 LAW - 8 GREAVES

What's the drink for an eastern European eleven?
Vodka, I guess.
Shevchenko
Stoichkov - Deyna - Blokhin
Netto - Voronin
Demyanenko - Zmuda - Shesternyov - Bezsonov
Yashin

A tad harsh on Lewandowski & Boniek but I felt like Deyna fits the rest better.

Lovely. I'd be tempted to throw Chivadze in for Zmuda for on-the-ball and moustache-based sex appeal. If Czech Republic counts as eastern Europe, maybe Nedved in for Netto in a 4-1-4-1 as well.

Dzajich?

Good shout but generally I avoided Yugoslavia & Georgia as I feel like wine is way more prevalent than vodka there.

Aye, maybe another category for the former Yugoslavia, Hungary and Romania.

Schmeichel

Quick attempt at a maximum 1 player per country from the beer countries. Defence could be improved upon for sure. There's probably loads of ways to approach this.
