All Blacks skills session

Why was the NFL dude wearing gloves?

He'd get eaten alive if he tried training with the blokes in the first video. The soft cnut.

Ive always felt there was more skill involved in the NFL compared to rugby. So the gloves can be excused. Its not all about being hard innit...

Those sports virals were kind of cool for the first one or two, as you had the slightest inkling it might have been possibly. Now they're just clever camera work and editing.

How so? Barely half the team are trusted with even touching the ball and there's only one bloke allowed to pass!

well obviously half the team are dedicated to defending. thats just the rules. must make them some type of specialist in the circumstances; focussing on one aspect.

I don't deny they're more specialised, just curious why you think they're more skilled?

Dunno they seem to be a lot less "smash your brains in" and a bit more "hey lets tactically score a touchdown!!!!!!!!!!!!!!""

maybe its the propaganda thats made of NFL in films, im not a fan personally

I know bugger alll about NFL, to be fair, but it always struck me as a sport where you can play most positions purely on the basis of being big, strong and quick.

This is kind of true for rugby too but all the backs (and most of the forwards) need to be skilled when it comes to passing/kicking the ball, so I'd give them the edge skills-wise. Plus they get bonus man points for not wearing all the gay pads and gloves.

Both sports are unique, I think a lot of people don't give the NFL guys enough credit. The quickness they have for people that big is amazing.

Linebacker is a position some of the Rugby guys might be able to play in the NFL, whereas Defensive backs, Linebackers, Running Backs and Fullbacks would all be able to play Rugby as far as I am concerned.

Take a LOT less training to convert a rugby player into an NFL player (other than a quarter-back) than it would the other way round.

I wasn't speaking so much about the training...more the physical attributes to actually survive in the game.

Have you seen the time the Linebackers put up in the 40 yard? Let alone defensive backs(who would be perfect wingers)

Front Rowers in rugby would be absolutely hopeless in the NFL, they are big, no doubt, strong even, but quickness, it's just not there.

*I grew up with the NFL and then moved to Australia and got into Rugby(GO the Wallabies, no matter how much skill the All Blacks show, you know when it matters, they will choke!)

Basically I think

Speed: NFL
Size: NFL
Strength: NFL
Endurance: Rugby
Hand-Eye Coordination: Rugby

Speed and Size are in a way God given, sure you can optimize what you have, but if you aren't quick, you just aren't quick.

Strength again goes to the NFL overall, not that the Rugby guys are weak, by any stretch of the imagination though.

Endurance, other than a couple of positions, man for man Rugby players have a lot more endurance compared to their NFL counterparts.

Hand-Eye Coordination, again I think the Rugby guys win this one, have you seen anyone other than a DB, WR/TE, or RB/FB, try to handle the ball   Where as in Rugby even the big guys show good ball skills.

I just think the lack of the 1st three attributes on the whole, means Rugby guys are less suited to the NFL.

Oh yeah, I think we're in agreement actually.

Most rugby players could pick up NFL quite quickly but wouldn't be very good at it. Not many NFL players could master rugby but if they did they'd be bloody good!
