Alex's bad decisions?

I have to question AF's selection tonight. He knew a win was a must and the match should have been treated like a cup final. So why, when in need of a win and goals needed for that win,was Van Nistlerooy on the bench?Fitness? Its like Brazil leaving out a half fit Ronaldo!Van Nistlerooy should at least have started the second half.
As for Veron, will Alex admit he was wrong to sign a player that is more suited to the leisurely pace of the Italian league than the hustle and bustle of the most physical league in the world?
The 28 million spent on Veron would have been better invested in the defence after the departure of Stam. These questions have to be answered and not brushed aside.

Fergie goes on a lot about Ruud's injury, what he's been through, his tiredness etc.

So why play him up front by himself as often as he did. Was he fit enough for this???? Surely that must have contributed to his tiredness.

good point Liv.

Give it up, even if United won DID you really think Everton can win against Arsenal who only needs a Draw?

I'd say he rested RVN for the World Cup and for next season!

What are you on about????

What does the match against Everton have to do with anything? You're saying we shouldn't even have tried. Ever heard of pride? How will you feel if Everton get something at Highbury. Not likely perhaps - but remember Bradford at Anfield?
It's now more likely that Arsenal will win on Saturday whereas if we had won, it might have unsettled them.

And Ruud isn't even going to the World Cup.

Bad point actually. If Fergie feels he needs to play with one striker he's not going to consider Ruud's old injury will get him tired sooner (whether it's in the match or the season). The way we played, Rvn on from minute 1 would not have made a difference.

Frankly, RVN did look tired throughout the last month or two. He's been playing ok but not better and missed plenty of chances. No blame, he hasn't played much in over a year and the English game is very physical.

I don't see the point you are making.

Seems simple to me. If Ruud was likely to tire after a year out, then using him as a lone striker would surely make him even more tired. Granted, he probably wouldn't have made a difference tonight, but that's with the benefit of knowing how Arsenal performed.

I think we should have started with Ruud and Ole up front.

Our two most important games of the season could be said to be Arsenal and Liverpool at Old Trafford. In neither of these games did we go with a successful strike force.

*laughing here* Its posts like that make me wonder too.Nothing against RVN but he is Dutch and it was Us(Rep.of Ireland)who knocked Holland out of the qualifiers.Unless he is going as a spectator LOL

All season long playing Veron on the right has not worked at all, and Forlan is definitely not ready for the Premiership, and the best combination so far has been RVN and OGS. So what does SAF do in the most imp game of the season, he plays Forlan and Veron two players who are so totally out of whack. The man has won countless number of trophies but his tactics over the last 2 very imp games leaves a lot to be desired. He needs to do motivating and leave the tactics to someone like Peter Taylor. The only reason he played Veron was to show the critics that Veron is not going anywhere and he's still the maestro. Well last night, he just came out looking like a stubborn old twit who's refusing to admit his mistakes. Veron is a huge mistake, lets just own up to that. He's not right for the EPL.

Ruud has already showed that he was very tired in our last match against Bayer. He came in in the second half doing nearly nothing except fighting with Keown. Not blaming him though, as our midfield creativity was so poor in this match, whether Ruud played or not won't make much difference.

And everyone who is not blind can see Veron was playing in pain in this match, so it's unfair you still blame him for our defeat.

Hence the importance of bringing in a new assistant who is tactically sound and maybe even one or two new coaches. Let's face it, Jimmy Ryan and Mike Phelan aren't the best footballing brains around.

As for Veron, if he is around for next season, he will be under the microscope from day one of the 2002-03 season. Personally, I feel that he should be sold ASAP if his form doesn't pick up by end October this year (3 months into the new season).

Fergie has done ok by himself this year, but has made some poor team selection decisions at key points of the season and i think he knows it, or at least i hope he does.

Bringing Johnsen into the fold because he wanted to give him a chance to earn a contract renewal was foolish, the man has not been right for sometime. nothing wrong with johnsens skills but a defender that is only capable of stringing 6 or 8 games together is useless. Johnsen should be a backup defender and nothing else.

leaving solskjaer on the bench against leverkusen was a huge mistake...and what does he do against arsenal; leaves van nistelroy on the bench. Now come on, we all love alex ferguson but you have to question some of these decisions...

you know what, we needed this. Roy Keane will tell you that the hunger has not been there throughout our squad this year, we needed a kick in the pants and we sure got it, our crown taken from us in our own back yard. You want to give the players motivation, well if that doesnt motivate them nothing will.

I am looking forward to how they respond to that next year. Not just the players but mr ferguson to.

But not as tired as Forlan looked against Ipswich. Or last night.
