19 year old midfielder currently playing in the Championship for Bristol City. He's showing a very high level of touch and technique playing in the Championship. His dribbling/ball carrying ability in confined spaces aswell as his ability to receive passes under pressure on the half turn is already very impressive. He's also has got good vision to execute passes under pressure and has good ball striking ability.

I think under ten Hag I can see Scott developing into a first phase connector due to his superb ability to carry the ball and combine/connect with team mates. He'd be a developmental type signing for us for now imo.

Currently Liverpool and a number of other EPL clubs are linked to him. United were also linked to him at the beginning of the current season where it was reported that a enquiry was made regards the availability of the player and United had registered their interest in the player.

He'd clean our midfield right up.

edit: oh wait that was Barry.

He looks like a decent player but from watching that video and having a quick peek at his fbref, it looks like he's more of a transitional player than one who attempts to control the tempo of a game. If we ever want to move away from being a counter attacking team, we need to look for a different profile of midfielder.

Thought she was coming out of retirement when I first read the headline.

Looks good, though.

If we want to become a more imposing team, then we need better players on the ball who can resist/evade pressure and progress play via the first phase. And when you have players like that, the chances of making the opponent retreat into a lower block increases. The keeper, CBs, fullbacks and the deeper lying midfielders will decide if the team dominates the ball. Or otherwise we'll see the repeat of what we've been seeing against teams who are adept at defending high up the the pitch where we've struggled to build play. And then the likes of Brentford and Everton at home will lull some into a false sense of security.

Alex Scott is still a very young player and has a lot to prove if he wants to be a top level midfielder in the EPL. But as far as his attributes are concerned, he's definitely a player that has the potential to help a team be more proactive/imposing in style. He's a young player who has been utilised in various different roles by Bristol City but from watching him play, his ability in both the deeper and advanced areas of the pitch is very evident, where he can carry/dribble the ball out of pressure, thread the lines or receive the ball under pressure in both deeper and advanced areas of the pitch. He's showing a very high technical level for a 19 year old and is arguably the best young player in the Championship.

He did quite well against City in the cup at times.

He seemed to play wide in that game. His goalscoring record is pretty abysmal so I doubt if that's his long term position. Has to work on that or maybe he'll be a midfielder.

If I squint my eyes, it looks like I'm watching a right footed Wilshere against Barca.

Okay maybe not.

I don't see anything there that Hannibal is not capable of and we already have him at the club.

This guy has had a far better season than Hannibal playing at the same level.

Doesn't mean he'll go on to be a better player etc but as of now he influences games far more than Hannibal and is indeed a better player currently.

Without a doubt, this kid seems to have it all right now and Bristol City's team revolves around him in the centre of the park. If he continues his development at this pace he will be a top top player - but that's a big if!

He's well worth a punt though

Just saying, had him down as one to watch in the championship thread last season (I think it was then anyway).

He looks like a proper player on the ball, just oozes class.

Has his season been that much more impressive than James Garner's season in the Championship?

That much goes without saying, but the midfield is a key component of the build up and transitioning us from defence to attack. Currently we don't have a single midfielder who can take care of the football. Other positions around that are important too but the midfield is the hub of the team, and to be honest we have players like Shaw and Martinez who are far more capable with the ball than our actual midfielders.

The main concern I have with Scott is his passing. Passes attempted, pass completion and and progressive passes per 90 are all sub 25% in their respective percentiles. We need a player in there who can look after the ball at the highest level. Scott might be young but if he isn't doing it in the Championship, I'd be very skeptical about him dramatically changing his game to start doing it in the Premier League. That's not to say he isn't or can't be a good player but he doesn't look the right stylistic fit to me.

Youngster doing good in the championship should always be looked at. He shouldn't be expensive so it's worth the shot.

Agree with others the thing that lets him down is passing at the moment.

Lovely player though other than that just not in my opinion quite good enough for United.

Who would he replace? How would he get any minutes?

My guess would be coming on for Eriksen around the 60th minute mark and his backup in case of injury, but we should be aiming higher level right now. We can't really afford to develop 19 year olds in our midfield right now.

Could be of course, depends a lot on what EtH decides to do this summer regarding the midfield. If we're looking for that top class "8" it'd be stupid from Scott to sign for us. Considering we've got Hannibal and Mainoo (& Oyedele), I'd say we should give this one a pass. Granted he's on a higher level to our young options at the moment, but still.

I agree with you mate.

Scott is a young player who likely requires a next step in his career before he joins a big club. And there's still development to come considering he's still a teenager. For United it probably only makes sense if we bought him and loaned him out to a club with a strong ethos when it comes to playing from back to front. And at a club like that, a young player would potentially get a good education when it comes to all aspects of the game, especially tactical aspects, which also develop a players intelligence on the pitch.

If he's good enough he'll get them.

Guess you’re right. I think he’s good enough to do so. Will be interesting to see which PL club signs him. Could see him going to Leeds, Southampton or Fulham. Something like that.

If he's good I hope we're interested. There's no such thing as too many promising youngsters.

There kind of isn't but there's for sure a thing where a young promising player doesn't see a pathway to the first team and asks for a transfer.

Kind of player we should be signing and selling to you for £60m in two years time. Stay in your lane.

From looking at the stats it looks like Hayden Hackney from Boro would actually be the better stylistic fit if we're looking at a player from that level. Also nominated for the Young Player of the Season alongside Scott and Amad.

He's a good player but he's playing in a Boro team that are amongst the best teams at dominating the ball in the league. And when the collective unit is geared towards playing proactive football from the back, where there is a build up phase, then it creates a solid foundation for players like Hackney to express themselves and showcase their abilities in midfield.

Our own Hannibal Mejbri is playing in a Birmingham team that is one of two worst teams in the league at retaining possession.

Have to admit that he is a very good player indeed and improving all the time.
Surprised that United are not looking at him and hopefully they are.
