he could be the missing link!!

I think he's excellent, still not reached his potential though.. he's got great skill, great balance and good pace...

Sometimes, he reminds me of Maradona, especially when he edges pass players... (I know, there will never be another Maradona..... !!)

I'd prefer him over Ronaldhino tbh.

Over the last 12 months he's been one of the very best attacking midfielders around.

Don't think he'd fit into the Premiership tbh.

All I wanna know is why we don't go for players like Aimar, who is grealty suited to the pace of the PL and would be much better than veron in my opinion. Is it that man united can't attract these quality south american players without paying huge money for them. Does anyone know how much valencia paid for aimar???, I bet its less than half the price we did for veron.

Aimar was offered to us at ~9m a year before he signed for Valencia (or at least that was the news here in SAM). Valencia paid slightly less than that.

That was before Veron and, in fairness, Veron was a recognised World Class player while Aimar was a very talented youngster (how much would he cost now, about the same as Veron?).

If Aimar had come here and played the way he played for Valencia (a country easier to adapt to for an Argie!) over his first season he would no longer be with us and would have been written off as no good for the physical EPL, cultural issues, blabla...

The fact is, other clubs take more risks with youngsters either because they have to (no money to sign proven ones) or because they can afford to (i.e. they don't NEED to be first). Neither applies to us.

PS: We also face a problem called "Work Permit"

and valencia have historically had to buy bargain youngsters with promise and then sell them to usually some eyeties when the player becomes a world beater (Mendieta, Lopez, Gerard recently).
they live in the shadows of real and barce and so have had to push for those SA starlets early.
for instance, should Valencia not make the semis and have to lose aimar, rufete, vicente to some hairy mediterranean gang of thieves who promised them the earth, look to valencia to buy d'alessandro, diego or kaka, or a more obscure "next pele" as replacements.
it keeps the team exciting, la.
Valencia vs United come May at OT <img src="graemlins/keano.gif" border="0" alt="[Keano]" /> <img src="graemlins/keano.gif" border="0" alt="[Keano]" /> <img src="graemlins/keano.gif" border="0" alt="[Keano]" /> (though i dont think it'll happen)

Exactly. They have to and their expectations are more related to discovering this talent and enjoying them while they can have them.

We only get to see youngsters and other "risky" players if we absolutely must or can afford to (e.g. Basle & Depor). We are a plc and need to win so there is a lot less room for being "experimental".

That was the Valencia board over Cuper's head and that was 22.5 million dollars, not pounds.

tribalfootball.com - March 26, 2003

Manchester United are banking on the influence of Juan Veron to bring Valencia star Pablo Aimar to Old Trafford next season.
Reports over the last 24 hours have suggested both United and Arsenal are pressing for the 23 year-old Argie after receiving encouragement from the attacking-midfielder's representatives.

United are willing to offer £15 million for the Valencia ace, who is also high on Juventus' shopping list.

Aimar is a wanted player at Valencia, but it's understood he is keen to join international teammate Veron at United in the summer.

Could be an interesting option, I would prefer him to Ronaldinho, I belive that he would be more of a consistent performer than little Ronnie.
