Sergio Aguero and Diego Forlan 'to be offered to Spurs for £40m in summer'

Atletico Madrid will approach Spurs to offer them star duo Diego Forlan and Sergio Aguero for a combined fee of £40million when the transfer window reopens.

According to reports in Spain, cash-strapped Atletico are ready to sell their prized assets because of attitude problems and 'personality clashes' within the squad.

Forlan is rumoured to have been wanting out for some time while Aguero is said to have instructed his agent to negotiate a move away from Vicente Calderon after becoming disillusioned with life in the Spanish capital.

Aguero, 22, feels he cannot progress his career at the club - especially as they look set to miss out on European competition altogether next season.

And, as a result, he is determined to push his cause for a move to England in the summer - having seen the Premier League earning power of former Atletico team-mate Fernando Torres, who joined Chelsea from Liverpool for £50m recently.

He is also said to have privately identified Harry Redknapp as a manager he would like to work with.

Atletico rejected an offer from city rivals Real Madrid for Forlan, 31, in January, while both Chelsea and Spurs were rebuffed in their approaches for Aguero - valued at around £38million.

The latter even signed a new contract to demonstrate his willingness to remain - although it is believed a release clause would be activated if Atletico finish any lower than sixth in La Liga.

As a result, they are keen to maximise any transfer - so are set to offer both as a 'multi-million-euro package deal' for fear that Forlan alone, at 31, will not generate the same level of interest alone, despite winning the World Cup Golden Boot last year.

When asked last month about the prospect of leaving the club, Forlan replied abruptly: 'I'm fine here. I will not talk about my future.

'You don't know how things will turn out, this is football after all.'

How has Aguero been doing?

I know he is only 22 but isn't really setting the world on fire as expected.

Unless we sell Rooney, we wont be signing any big money strikers.
Chelsea will probably go in for Aguero..

A few injuries and a few ups and downs in form but still looking like a real talent. I do think he's got to leave Atletico - it's dragging him down.

Forget Kun............Benjamin is the real deal

'Kin hell. That kids got a surround sound system, projector tv (?) a PS3, Xbox 360 and he barely looks two years old. Not to mention his Grandad is the best footballer ever...

Alright for some eh?

Aguero looks slightly complacent and a bit lazy these days. A move to England would suit him down to the ground, he's strong and quick as well as brilliant technically, I just hope he doesn't flounder in Madrid for too long.

No-one is passing to Forlan, I think I read something like Aguero has only passed to him once in the last 2 games that they've played together.

Plus they call him "the blonde chick", footballers in immaturity shocker.

Forlan apparently doesn't like anybody - including the fans. I was surprised.

He's been getting stick for over a year now regarding his Argie girlfriend. The fans used to say whenever she came over to visit he didn't perform (on the pitch, that is). He had an angry response around Feb last year, then she didn't show up for a couple of months, they won the Europa League and all was forgotten. She missed out on the WC too, thanks feck for that!

Now she has moved in for good and the fans are at it again. Back in Jan he was asked why he didn't kiss the badge and he said he only kissed the badge for his childhood team, Penarol. He added he had a lot of time for other clubs he has played for and their fans, mentioning United and Villarreal... and making no comment whatsoever about Atletico.

In fairness, his performance level is 100% correlated with her presence in Madrid, would you blame him?

Aguero seems to have slipped off the radar lately. Always linked with Chelski but with the having Torres surely they cannot justify him as well. You never do know when it comes to Abramovich though.

I dont think he would be much use to us as he plays a similar kind of way to Rooney. Were we to ditch Wayne, then Aguero would be a fantastic signing if we were prepared to spend big, but otherwise it seems a bit of a non starter.

As for Forlan, he has become a very good player but I dont think we really need another striker in that mould right now. I think if Fergie felt we did he would simply retain Owen for another season or two - but with our young strikers coming through I cant see us buying in someone like Forlan.

The two of them for £40million? Did Atletico not turn down a bid of around £30million for Aguero during the January transfer window. Both Spurs and Chelsea apparently bid for him.

Aguero is a fantastic talent but he's been treading water at Atletico and it's time he moved to one of the giants.

A move to Spurs at this point in his career would be great for Forlan.

Anelka and Drogba aren't getting any younger. A Torres/Aguero partnership is entirely possible and pretty scary if Torres finds his form and Aguero adapts to England.

Yes, he's 22 and could be a big player for us for the next decade, so long term it would be good business IMO.

Would you lot be happy if we sold Berbatov and bought Aguero in the summer?

Definitely not, why sell one of our seasons best performers for someone unproved in this league? Aguero is undoubtedly talented but we need additions rather than replacements.

Hernandez, Rooney, Aguero and Berbatov would be a formidable array of strikers.

Saying this, I can't see the Aguero transfer going through and also think the money should be invested more urgently in the midfield.

I'm completely happy with our attacking options, except for Owen who should be gone when his contract is up. We don't really lack a player to play any role you could imagine for a striker, especially with Welbeck coming back and Macheda on the books. I suppose the exception would be a donkey-type striker like Heskey, but I'd like to think we're too good for that.

Forlan would be immense for Spurs but didn't he say he'd never go back to England again?

I wouldn't want them. We already have a good enough strikeforce, we need someone(s) who can get them the ball from midfield.
