Right, I've always leant more towards the Playstation rather than the X-Box in the past but at the moment i don't have a next gen console and the time has come to get one now that the new football games are coming out.

So, and i know most of you are passionate one way or the other, but i need some sound advice and reasons about which i should get.

Thanks in advance!

What's your budget?

I'm not that bothered about that, its something that will last me a few years so a hundred quid here or there doesn't really matter...

I just want the best one.

Do you want advice regarding which is the better hardware, which has the current best software library, bang per buck, reliability, what?

What do you want to do with it, what do you expect from it?

I wanna play Fifa and/or Pro Evo on it, which is the best for that. :D

That depends on how the developer produces the game on the platform in question. I think that the '09 editions will be basically equal on both. Anything that uses d-pad in such cases will suit the PS3 better, so that's now down to controller preference.

I've always preferred using the d-pad rather than the stick but that's probably just because it's what i'm used to.

All I can do is give you some basic generic facts....

1) PS3 has the better hardware for games.
2) PS3 has the better hardware for media functions.
3) PS3 has a Blu-ray player as standard.
4) PS3 has standard (upgradable) HDD as standard.
5) PS3 is very reliable.
6) PS3 has free online gaming.
7) PS3 can run Linux.
8) PS3 now runs multi-platform games that are equal to XB360 versions in the majority of cases.
9) PS3 is backed up by the largest 1st party software development.
10) PS3 costs slightly more than the XB360.

You sound like you've always been using a PS so why not stick with it?

Speaking from personal experience, I found playing ProEvo on a 360 wierd simply because I'm used to playing it with a dualshock.

Having got both (wll our kid has a PS3 I have an XBox), there is very little between the two when it comes to football games.

I find Live easier than PSN, and am very happy to pay for the service.

The PS3 has other benefits, like the ability get Blu-Ray DVDs and the fact the fan doesn't wake half of Africa up when you play in Lancashire.

The one thing I feel separates the two is the controller. The XBox controller is a work of art. It is perfect to hold. The PS3 controller, by comparison, just doesn't feel as good.

Cool, thanks.

"Generic facts", that support the PS3.

Weaste, out of curiosity, do you have any XB360 "generic facts", that arn't all PS3>XB360?

Because i'd heard people say the 360 was much better so would rather get the best one and simply get used to any differences.

I disagree but im sure thats only because i'm used to the PS controller.

1) XB360 has a slightly better GPU.
2) Due to release dates, XB360 has a larger software library.
3) XB360s paid for online service is slightly superior to PS3s free service.
4) XB360 has its own internal scaler in case the one in your TV is crap.

Any more?

Fair enough. I was in your same position as well and opted for a PS3 because of free PSN, blu ray and those stories of 360s getting screwed up.

This depends on size of hands and what you are used to TBH. I for example am uncomfortable finding the sticks in different positions on the XB360 controller. Why is Microsoft trying to improve what many people find to be an awful d-pad if it's such a work of art? Don't get me wrong, the DS3 has its issues, but I think that problems exist on both controllers depending upon who is using it.

Controllers are all swings and roundabouts in any case, I don't think that they are system defining in terms of the HD consoles. Any third party could probably copy the basic design on the XB360 controller and put it on PS3, which accepts any Bluetooth device. Vice-versa is more of a problem, as I think you would need a licence from MS to do that due to it (again) not using standards.

If you want something to last a few years, then that rules out the XBox

PS3. No comparison mate.

Before anyone says it I'm not a Sony fan boy, in fact I've been a Nintendo fan since i was a kid so my observations are purely based on me saying it as i see it.

The PS3 has had a slow start but is quickly gathering pace now. There are some stellar titles on the horizon that are PS3 exclusive so my advice is that if money isn't an option then you don't have a decision to make at all. PS3 al the way.

FIFA 09 on the PS3 has an exclusive mode, it's nothing special but it's still got more than the 360 version.
