Ace Combat 'series'

Big fan of the series, but a little disappointed that there's been little to no indication of a new version. Prior to 07, it was a Play station exclusive then Fires of Liberation came out on 360 with promise of a ps3 version midway through 2008. Its now nearly 2010 and still no game.

After my personal disappointment with Hawx, I'm hoping for a new game soon. Fantastic gameplay backed up by fantastic story lines. 5 squadron leader has to be one of the games of the decade.

Ace Combat on the Xbox was fecking top. What Lylat Wars was to the N64, what Rogue Leader was to the Gamecube, is what Ace Combat: FoL is to the 360.

Anyway I found this thread because I bought HAWX yesterday and have been playing through it. It's really very similar although Ace Combat's levels are much better - they do a better job of making you feel like youre part of a larger battle, as opposed to the only competent one in a four mile radius.

The problem I found with HAWX was the stupid external view that the game makes you play with. I want to get the impression that im flying a jet not playing some arcade like thing.

I haven't found it's really hindered me that much so far - I'm not really a fan of it either but you're not ever really forced to use it (well I'm about halfway through and I've not been forced to yet, save the training level)

Anyone tried the new one? I'm considering picking it up at some point but am undecided

I'm much the same as you. I doubt very much though this game will sell like the old ones. Namco sure found a way to screw up a very good series. Thing is, people loved what the old series had. Facing massive fecking super weapons, flying through canyons and caves! It tested everything and you didn't need some stupid FPS view to enjoy it. I love the ace combat series because of its simplicity and story. Something apparently the new one lacks.

I bought the new one. Had to put it down after about 10 minutes it's that bad.

The game more or less forces you to use that idiotic dogfight mode because half the enemy planes take about 10 missiles or 45 seconds of sustained gunfire to kill.

The last one was bad. This one I'm sure is worse. Belkan War was the last of a good series.

I miss number 5 really bad. I've got IL 2 and it's fun, but it's not Ace Combat fun.
