Rovers beaten in friendly
United's Academy side enjoyed a 3-0 victory against Tranmere Rovers in a friendly at Carrington on Saturday.
Strikers Ashley Fletcher and Sam Byrne got on the scoresheet and an own goal added to the scoreline when a Demetre Mitchell effort found its way into the net.
The Reds were without a number of regulars at this level due to the participation in the Mercedes-Benz Junior Cup in Germany, allowing a run-out for the likes of Kieran O'Hara, Josh Harrop and Mitchell.
Meanwhile, the six-a-side tournament ended on a positive note for United, with the youngsters clearly getting to grips with the indoor game.
Ben Pearson and James Weir netted in a 2-1 victory against Borussia Dortmund before defeat to Mainz by the same scoreline with Pearson again finding the net.
A 7-2 thumping of Lazio in the final fixture featured a first-half hat-trick from the outstanding Pearson. Mats Daehli bagged a brace while Jack Barmby and James Wilson also got in on the act.
United starting line-up (v Tranmere): O'Hara; Wilkinson, Ioannou, McNair, Rowley; Rudge, Harrop, Rothwell, Mitchell; Byrne, Fletcher.
