Although Lawrence fails the fitness test and misses out, expect Daehli to play instead of him. Match should start in 15 minutes.

That MUTV stream is not working... :(

Noone watching that can give some updates on how the game is going ?

following it via twitter reports, van velzen seems to have shot high a clear sitter, summary of the first 20 minutes: "20 mins gone and United are under a fair bit of pressure. Boro looking strong
"

It's still 1-0, Dalley has missed a good chance from a corner. United playing well up until the final third, Byrne isolated as Daehli dropping deeper and Barmby and Van Velzen frustrating with their decision-making and execution when well placed.

Not been impressed with the overall level of this group of players at all so far this season.

It's quite a young group so we were expecting them to be inconsistent. They are missing probably their most effective player so far this season, Lawrence, and Byrne is still settling in.

At times they've played some very good football and players like Weir, Rothwell and McCullough have looked very promising.

I think you will see gradual improvement over the season and the best of them next year.

thats probably because this is a particularly young and inexperienced group.
Also I feel missing maturity in key areas of the pitch. Up front Byrne is still finding his feet at this level.

I agree that they are still young and will be a lot better next season - but at the same time - I just can't see that extra bit of talent on many of these players. I don't see a Keane, a Cofie, a Morrison, a Tunnicliffe or a Pogba in many of these players

It should be added that I have only seen 3 of the first 4.5 matches - and it's based on that

Cofie wasn't particularly impressive in his first Academy year and Tunnicliffe took a while to really impose himself. Often the improvement comes with physical development.

Edit. You only have to look at the development of Cole and Lingard to see how early impressions are not really fair.

If you mean are there players who we can expect to be in or around the first team at 18 years old, it doesn't look like that in this group, probably because they need time to develop physically. Morrison and Pogba are exceptions rather than the rule, to be fair.

There are plenty of players that, depending on continued progressing and physical development could become good players. Particularly Mats Daelhi.

Youth football is not black and white, noone really thought Tom Cleverley would play for the first team when he was 16/17...

Edit: Blackett could also become a very good left back if he works on his reading of the game.

I realise they are a very young group and they will develope and learn --- i certainly would write no player off at their age. Its just so far I have been less excitied about them than usual. .

super goal by Rothwell and they are playing 100% better just to shut me up!

Apparently Januzaj could be a bit special, not featured competitively in the league yet though due to injury.

Nothing would please me more than to be wrong - and I agree with what everyone is saying about physical development and such but the standard of our first team is so high now that you have to be something out of the ordinary to make it into the first team.

Welbeck was special everyone saw that - same with Macheda. Cleverley is a bit difficult to judge as he lost so much time through injuries when he was like 16-17. As I recall he had at least 1 knee-operation that kept him out for a long time.

And you could say that players like Pogba and Morrison were exceptions - but we are getting to the level where thats the quality you need to break into our first team.

Rothwell, Daehli, Lawrence, Blackett could all be very good players in the future IMO. Haven't seen enough of Januzaj, Pearson and McNair but all of them are highly rated.

All these players have 3-4 years before anyone needs to start worrying about the first team though.

I have to say it does not take too long to appreciate the talent that Daehli has got. There are several interesting players in that group including Barmby. The boy has a wand of a left foot reminds me a bit of the quality that Rossi had.
