Academy against Wolves

2-1 down at half-time apparently, Brady pulling one back with a freekick after we went 2-0 down (and Wolves missed a pen to make it 3-0).

Brady stretchered off with a bad-looking leg injury apparently (his leg's in a brace) :(

We're without Johnstone, Morrison, Keane and Thorpe who are with England under 17s I think

Highlights on MUTV at 5.30pm tomorrow night I think.

Hopefully the brace for Brady is just precautionary and it's not a bad injury.

absolutely! He was in good form too. fingers crossed

According to PS18's source it may be a broken ankle for Brady, terrible news for the lad if true.

Hes been so unlucky with injuries since he arrived this is the last thing he needs after whats probably been his longest run in the team

He always seems to get an injury in virtually every game I've watched, but he's a tough bugger who never wants to come off. He has a great attitude and was starting to fulfil his promise this year, probably due to the run of games as you said.

Yeah, can't be far from the end. Was a fair bit of injury time first-half seemingly, presumably because of the Brady injury.

Good stuff to (hopefully) salvage a draw from 2-0 down anyway.

Good to hear Brady's injury isn't as bad as first feared. Has been having a cracking season so far and I have been impressed with him. Also cracking result in the end, shows what the lads are made of coming back from 2-0 down.

So, Brady, Pogba and Ajose played and we drew 2-2. That is pretty good! Impressive.

Petrucci made his comeback in todays match replacing robbie brady. Devlin also saved a penalty with the score at 2-0

'Academy under 18’s played 2-2 against Manchester United

Wolves Academy under 18’s played a draw, 2-2, against Manchester United today at home at Telford.

Already in the 6th minute Wolves player James Spray scored the first goal. And after 10 minutes came the second when Nathan Rooney kicked the ball into the net passed Conor Devlin in the United goal.

If Rooney only had scored on the penalty Wolves got after 25 minutes they would probably have won the match, but Devlin saved the penalty. The penalty was given when Mendez-Laing was brought down.

But instead Manchester United could get their first goal after half an hour of play when Robbie Brady scored. The same Brady went down injured a few minutes later and had to be substituted.

With just two minutes left of the game Nicky Ajose levelled and like the first team the Academy under 18’s only got one point, but deserved better.'

Great news about Brady, and good news for Mujac that Petrucci is back so he's not asked the same question 3 times a week.

Christ. Thank feck our academy blogger is more articulate!

He kicked the ball into the net with gusto.

United Side:

1. Devlin
2. Massacci
4. Fornasier
5. Wootton
3. McGinty
7. Cole
6. Tunnicliffe
8. Pogba
11. Brady
9. Ajose
10. Lingard

Subs:
12. M Keane
14. Petrucci
15. Giverin

From the highlights, we started slowly and were deservedly behind, the first coming from a poor back pass from Massacci (he made a similar error 2nd half) intercepted and squared for their forward to try and miss. The 2nd came from a cross by Mendez-Laing (who has first team experience) who seemed to give McGinty a torrid time, slotted in nicely by Rooney (not part of the dynasty).

The penalty was conceded by Fornasier stopping Mendez-Laing on a great run slaloming through players. Great save by Devlin, who had a great game, making some brilliant saves to keep us in the game. We had some good chances too, notably for Lingard and Ajose after excellent through balls from Brady. The freekick was well taken but a dodgy wall.

Brady got caught clearing the ball and a late studs up challenge on the ankle. Was pretty nasty, wasn't sure if the player was even booked. Petrucci came on for him and seemed to have a similar temperament to Macheda, reacting badly to an aggressive challenge from their centre back. Got a slap in the melee that the referee (as often at this level) chose to ignore.

We seemed to start the 2nd half on top, with Ajose in particular in good postions, but then Wolves came back into it and Devlin again made some great saves to keep us in it. Pogba had a goal disallowed for offside that looked very close, then Petrucci flicked through a great ball and Ajose flicked it into the corner for a great equaliser. We were lucky to grab a draw, it should probably have been about 6-4 to Wolves, tricky conditions and neither side defending well.

Not sure where Cofie, Fryers and the others were?

Cofie has been used sparingly of late in the Academy.

Those involved in the England u17s participated in a 6-2 drubbing of Kazakhstan. Johnstone, Thorpe and Keane starting (Keane scored), Morrison an unused sub. They play Azerbaijan on Weds.

Edit: Maybe Cofie and Fryers (if not carrying knocks) were held back as they are to be involved in the Reserves game on Thurs, given that there's a lot of reserves stepping up to the Carling Cup squad on Tues?

Morrison was talking about coming home on his facebook dont know if hes injured or acting up

Watched it just now, our defence had a bit of a nightmare really - especially Massacci. They all really struggled against Mendez-Lang, who if this match is anything to go by, looks like one heck of a talent as he was tearing our defence to shreds with pace and trickery. Brady was very impressive before the injury, our only player in the first half who was really making something happen - his through balls from deep were sublime and should have resulted in a goal or two, nicely taken free kick for the goal. A disgrace of a challenge for the injury though, studs showing from a dangerous angle.

Fantastic to see Davide Petrucci back playing, definitely a favourite of mine in the Academy/Reserves. We've heard about him supposedly having grown and he does look taller. His technique and awareness certainly doesn't seem to have suffered despite having been out for 8 and a half months, some beautiful passes through for Lingard and Ajose - the curled ball over the top for Ajose for the equaliser at the end was pure genius. He doesn't only have an amazing footballing brain but he has the ability to pull it off as well, a true talent and lets hope he goes from strength to strength now that he's back because he's certainly one of the biggest prospects in our youth system - an incredible talent.
