Official: AC Milan Sign Urby Emanuelson From Ajax - Goal.com

Versatile winger-cum-defender Urby Emanuelson has signed a three-and-a-half year contract with AC Milan, bringing to an end his six-year career at hometown club Ajax.

The 24-year-old has long since been linked with a move to San Siro after making almost 200 appearances for the Amsterdam club in a variety of left-sided positions.

No fee has been officially publicised for the transfer but it is thought that Emanuelson changed hands for a modest sum, given that his Ajax contract was to expire in six months' time.

Emanuelson began his career as a left-back but gradually found himself deployed further and further up the pitch, leading many to think that he will play on the left side of midfield or even attack for the Rossoneri.

One arena that won't see his talents anymore this season is the Champions League. Having played six matches for Ajax in the CL already he is ineligible to compete for Milan. Emanuelson actually played two games against the Rossoneri, earning Goal.com International ratings of 6.5 in both encounters (Ajax 1-1 Milan ratings, Milan 0-2 Ajax ratings), in which he played primarily defensive roles.

Emanuelson has won just 13 Dutch caps in four years of international service, missing out on both Euro 2008 and the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

He's one for the future, surely.

He'll be old enough to play for their first team in 10 years time.

4 years actually. Average age of this seasons senior squad is 28, including players like Ambrosini, Roma, Oddo, Inzaghi and Abbiati driving the number that high

Really got to feel sorry for Ajax with another of their main player going cheaply.

Seen him playing in the champions league this season. They've been using him as one of three central midfielders. He didnt really do anything. Just ran about passing the ball square every now and then

Or they could have sold him last summer and probably received a lot more. Feel sorry for them ? Nah - they receive tons of money from foreign clubs which they spend on every decent player in the dutch league. They manage nicely

Well he isnt a central midfielder whatsoever so I'm not surprised he had a difficult time playing there

Milan's team is actually going to be quite young when they finish rebuilding. Cassano and Ibrahimovic are their oldest purhchases in recent times and they are both below 30, then you have the likes of Robinho, Pato and Thiago Silva who are younger than that, also Flamini althouth I'm not sure what's his role there currently - last I cheked he was on the bench every single time.

Er...that is the correct use of the word 'cum'. I'm not sure it's that funny really

I remember him from the U21's tournament a few years back where I first saw Huntelaar. He was fantastic in that, not seen anything of him since though.

I thought someone had spelt Balotelli wrong for a minute.

Please start a new thread rather than bumping one thats over 2 years old.
