A suggestion for Announcement Panel

I've just read Niall's warning about the caf going down tonight for maintenance and it occurred to me that I was lucky to catch the warning in time. It also occurred to me many others would probably miss the warning as the contents of the announcement panel rarely changes and is treated like a piece of the page design furniture and subconsciously ignored as posters quickly move onto the forums.

I thought that if any managers/admins/mods make any changes and need those to come to the immediate attention of posters then perhaps by changing the colour of the Announcement panel might achieve this. I've produced an example below: first as it normally appears and the second changing the panel colour to bright yellow to make it appear different. The panel could either be blue or green to make the contrast stronger.

To take this idea further (if you wish) maybe the panel or something else (eg a button) could flash to bring it to posters attention.

Something like this might prevent posters from getting suicidal and bending mods ears once the site is back online.

I didn't notice that it had changed.

"Do It!"

Yeah 032Devil, good suggestion and something I was thinking myself. Too late to do now :)

Also there are some design changes I'll be making fairly soon and I plan to make announcement notifications a lot more visible - think top right of the page near the search box.

oooohhhh design changes!! cock out:D

Yes I've just reverted it back, made it that loud to draw attention to it.

This temporary changing of colours works like a charm; I noticed the new announcement immediately.

You can turn it off again now, Niall; I have seen it, that's what matters.

To be honest I hardly ever noticed announcements prior to this colour change.

Kudos to whoever came up with the idea.
