Is anybody out there conscious of the fact that we haven't replaced Teddy to any real degree.
Sheringham brought great vision to the United attack and of course it is his football brain that everyone admires.
But I reckon Sheringham's aerial ability was equally as important. Remember OT against Juve in the semi when for 60-70 mins we were playing second fiddle. I think if you look back at that game, the Italians struggled with Ted's aerial presence more than anything else. This also proved to be the case in the final in 99 of course.
I've no stats on this, its really only a hunch, but I reckon Teddy must have scored more goals with his head than any of the other United strikers at the club during his spell. (No doubt someone will prove me wrong with the old Opta index).
Really the point I'm trying to get to is we should be looking for a striker with a good aerial presence (not just a big stick mind) but someone who will give us an option in the air. None of the current first team trio are remarkable in that department. And when you think that we have "the best crosser of the ball in the world" playing down the right, then the logic is even more convincing.
So who out there is the new Teddy? A good football brain who is not afraid to use his head . Any thoughts?
