I've found a new Forum, looks great which we could use here (if the mod's agree)...
It is on the NationStates site (<a href="http://www.nationstates.net" target="_blank">www.nationstates.net</a>) site if you wanna have a look...
Mod's: take into consideration...

Paz I'm gonna move this to the Admin/Help forum, it's more likely to be noticed by Niall/Raoul there... :)

That was regarding another type of Forum, which is really Crap IMO...this one looks good...I love the present one though...

He's not been here 5 minutes and he wants the server software changed!

;)

He`s been on here maybe about a month and he`s, asked for a better member status and to change the forum. Sounds like bleedin Stalin to me!

He`ll be changing the history of the place soon to make him as member number 2 who was part of its creation alongside Niall! ;)

:p

thanks Paz, already looked at that site actually. I don't see any mention of a UBB transfer feature which allows you to move topics/member profiles across.

So that would mean starting from scratch if changing to phpBB which is a big no no! <img src="graemlins/nono.gif" border="0" alt="[No No]" />

vBulletin, although not as "aesthetically pleasing" as UBB, has that feature and imo is a better piece of software all round...

VBulletin in really RUBBISH, I hate the look of it, then this one is superb anyway, so stick to this one then...

Niall said it didn't look too good, but is a better peice of software. The trouble with this UBB is that it it doesn't use a database, but rather flat files which easily get corrupt, and also is a mix between Perl and PHP at the moment which also causes problems.

And regarding VBulletin, how do you know that you cant skin it? <img src="graemlins/smirk.gif" border="0" alt="[Smirk]" />

You know Paz, you shouldn't just a forum just by its design. When you look under the bonnet I think you'll find vBulletin is superior to UBB in its feature set. Yes I'm not ecstatic about the look but everything else about it has greatly impressed me.

And as weaste says, it is skineable - look at <a href="http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/index.php" target="_blank">vBulletin.org</a> Although admittedly that doesn't really change the aspect of the layout that I don't like....but can anyone say "Hack??" ;)

U're scaring me with the smirk!!, I hope the Mod's don't plan to change this UBB Forum to the VBulltein one...

It is very very ugly though.

What about the next UBB option up? Threads is it?

Threads does use a database server I believe, so it is much better.

<a href="http://members.boardhost.com/ToffeeWeb/index.html?1037530237" target="_blank">IS THIS THREADS?</a>
If it is...I don't like this either!

Efficiant, and not too bad once you get used to it though.

with all due respect - feck off Paz!! :)

just looked at UBB threads and it looks fecking disgusting!! You think vBulletin is bad? Take a look at <a href="http://www.ubbcentral.com/ubbthreads/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=testing" target="_blank">this</a>

I think that you could make it look exactly the same as this classic if you wanted to.

is there a button that does that or do you have to hack into the source? :)

I would expect that it would import all of your current templates. Don't quote me on that though.

Have been playing around with the demo of UBB threads and imo it sucks!! Looks shite and the features aren't as good as classic UBB or vBulletin.

It can be skinned weaste but not made to look like classic UBB - its features and layout make it fundamentally different.

So the big thumbs down for UBB threads....

That's that then! So only vBulletin as an alternative.

How about I write one from scratch? ;)

I've got 5 euro for you if you do weaste - now there's incentive :)

I actually do not think it would be that difficult to do the code.

Analysis and design could take 6 months, but coding, very little on a full tame basis. A month, max.

You design it, I'll code it. ;)
