Some really good bands lost their way in Ireland then, the industry was even more vague then. There's a lot of bands like Microdisney and Blue In Heaven that belong in here. Please don't feck it up with U2 and Boyzone; trying to make this for lost gems.

In no order. The Whipping Boy

These lads were from the north.... great band... I've never met anyone that knew who they were...

And lets not forget the kings of irish grunge.....

jd, you've let this potentially landmark thread down. Pogue's post was my next one. I've been trawling the net for a copy of 'On Our Big Fat Merry go Round' ... anyone got one?

yeah, no worries lads, I got a copy.

thanks TD, loving it ... glad it didn't sound shit after all these years.

You're going before my time with some of these moses, I may have to break out the Cry Before Dawn!!!

Golden Horde

used to see Simon Carmody around the Baggot St / Pembroke Rd area quite a lot and had a chat with him in the bar of the Lansdowne Hotel a few times, terribly nice chap.

liked the Golden Horde.

Not sure if this counts as it's from early 2000's (I think) and is a cover of an American song by a Northern Irish band

Worth listening to all the same

The Divine Comedy doing a very interesting cover of no-one knows by Queens of the Stoneage

There’s loads, Cuckoo and Clutch spring to mind. The Dangerfields aswell. Unfortunately im in work and get near youtube or listening to the vids already posted. Kerbdog are awesome aswell! Good shout there.

How about no one posts anything with Tom Dunne in it in this thread?

Wanker.

He was lead singer with Something Happens, a band tipped for greatness but who were pretty much killed by the emergence of bands like Nirvana.

He's a breakfast radio presenter now. His lack of support for irish artists is fairly legendary.

I don't mind admitting I toddled along to a few Something Happen gigs back in the day. I even wore a paisley-patterned shirt.

Shame he turned out to be such a knob.

Which reminds me, I once saw this lot supporting Something Happens and they rocked my world for a few brief moments.

EDIT: First time I've listened to this tune in ages. Still sounds good.

Have that whole gig on CD and it's incredible.

Aslan would play in your backgarden as long as they got paid, suppose with a smack habit the size of Christy's they sort of had to.....

thought engine alley were gonna make it. probably shocking stuff to listen to now
