AJ Strauss (captain, Middlesex), JM Anderson (Lancashire), IR Bell (Warwickshire), SCJ Broad (Nottinghamshire), PD Collingwood (Durham), AN Cook (Essex), A Flintoff (Lancashire), SJ Harmison (Durham), G Onions (Durham), MS Panesar (Northamptonshire), MJ Prior (wkt, Sussex), RJ Sidebottom (Nottinghamshire), GP Swann (Nottinghamshire), IJL Trott (Warwickshire).

No Ramps and no Key ,just Trott for Bophra ,lets hope we do better than the 4th Test.

Says Onions might make way for Flintoff..

I'd drop Swann for Panesar. Swann's been bowling like shit and papering over the cracks with good scores while batting.

I just checked and he has 6 wickets all series at an average of 68.

Panesar has been struggling for form also. I think the selectors should have blooded Rashid during the Windies tests then he would be a viable option.

Swann has had a disappointing series with the ball, who'd have thought that Hauritz would have been the most succesful spinner at the start of the series?

Not a big accomplishment when his competition are Swann, Panesar, to be honest. I don't think Hauritz has been any good.

Surprising that there's been nothing written about Swann considering his poor return.

Oh I dont know Swann has not been that bad ,its not like the restof them have been much better.
I would like to see both Onions and Flintoff playing.
I just hope that Flintoff is really fit and plays the whole game , we need him and others on top form.

I agree I have talked about Rashid in other threads. I've seen allot of him for Yorkshire could be a very good all round player. He's not had the best of seasons this year but hes been no worse then Swann or Monty.

Where'd this Trott character come from?

Hadn't heard his name once in any of the potential call-up talks.

He's been doing well at Warwickshire for a few seasons. Him, Bell and Troughton all came into the reckoning at around the same time - although I don't think Trott was eligible for a while. He played a couple of T20s a couple years ago and didn't score much, although he can hit the ball hard when needed. He's South African originally I think.

Anyway, being somewhat of a Warwickshire fan I'm pretty happy for him. However it's extremely stupid timing. Also he hasn't even been picked for the one day squad which seems mental. So basically he is getting picked for 1 test - 1 extremely tough and high pressure test at that - and then he gets sent back into the cold for a while, before joining up with England again for the T20s. Really bizarre way of introducing someone to International cricket! Despite this I think he will take his chance and establish himself in the England side in both Tests and ODIs before long. He could bat at 3 when Pieterson comes back in my opinion.

Have you seen Panesar recenty?

No, only the Cardiff test and before that the tests against India last year.

But I've seen a lot of Swann, I think he's a good limited-overs bowler because he bowls a tight line and length, but he is not going to threaten to take wickets, which is what you want in test cricket. Off-spin bowling finger spinners rarely threaten. I know you'll say Panesar is one, but he gets more turn than Swann at least.. that's why I like him more than Swann.
